Iraq's prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, is orchestrating a campaign of persecution against political rivals "even worse" than Saddam Hussein's reign of terror, his predecessor has claimed.
US reviews security firms after 11 Iraqis die Audio: Former Iraqi leader warns of paralysis In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Ayad Allawi claimed agents of Mr Maliki's Dawa Party were tightening their control of Iraq to emulate the creeping coup tactics used by the deposed Ba'ath Party to take over in the 1960s.
Ayad Allawi calls for his successor, Nouri al-Maliki, to be replaced.
He claimed that Mr Maliki commands his own intelligence and security agencies.

I agree with Allawi that al Malaki should be replaced but I think his claims about political persecution being worse than under one of the worst dictators in history are grossly overstated. No way al Malkiki could keep a reign of terror on par with Hussein's quiet and out of the public view, at least not today.

If he’s a S.O.B., but he’s our S.O.B., I can live with that. Especially if the killing is at the level of authoritarians such as Pinochet and the Shah of Iran.
That’s not great, but the world isn’t perfect. Sometimes, you have to take what you can get. A dictator in Iraq who isn’t bothering U.S. interests may be the best we can hope for.
Hussein was invading our allies, giving money to families of homicide bombers, shooting at our planes, and slaughtering the Kurds.

You might be interested in reading what Alaa (The Mesopotamian) had to say a few weeks ago....including this....”And what is this loud talk about changing the government by some kind of a coup and installing a new government presumable by extra-parliamentary methods, to put it politely? It has got so far that Mr. Allawi is employing a public relations firm to lobby in Washington towards this end. I wonder where Mr. Allawi gets all the money for his lavish campaigns from. Recently the exiled Baath party under the ostensible leadership of Izzat Al-Douri (Saddam’s erstwhile deputy), issued a statement from Jordan endorsing Mr. Allawi and expressing public support for him.”

The main purpose for Captain Kirk to post this article is to discredit the toppling of Saddam and prop up Prawn Paul 08'.
Nice try though.

He claimed that Mr Maliki commands his own intelligence and security agencies. Mr. Maliki learned his trade from the Clintons, the most successful political shysters in US history.
