Esam S. Omeish, a Fairfax County surgeon and Muslim leader who resigned from a Virginia immigration commission after videotapes of him making controversial remarks surfaced on the Internet, said yesterday that he has never promoted violence and accused his critics of perpetrating a "smear campaign" against him.
Surrounded by Christian and Muslim leaders as well as a prominent antiwar activist, Omeish said at a news conference that his remarks were taken out of context. Although he is a fierce critic of Israeli military force against Palestinian civilians in Lebanon and the occupied territories, Omeish said he has consistently pushed for a peaceful solution to conflict in the Middle East.
In particular, Omeish's exhortation at an Islamic political rally in 2000 to support "the jihad way" -- posted on YouTube this week -- caused consternation among some elected officials who interpreted the remark as a call to arms and a tacit endorsement of terrorism. But jihad is a broad term meaning "struggle," Omeish said.
"It was related to giving support to people who are under occupation and who are under severe conditions of repression," Omeish said at a hotel near Baileys Crossroads.
He said: "It was not a call for violence. It was never any condoning of terrorism or any violent acts."
A chorus of supporters echoed Omeish's defense, including several Christian leaders from Washington and Northern Virginia. Brian Becker, national coordinator of the antiwar ANSWER Coalition, also spoke on Omeish's behalf.
"At almost every one of the big peace marches that have happened in the Washington, D.C., area, including the very last march of tens of thousand of people, led by Iraq war veterans and Gold Star mothers whose children have perished in Iraq, Dr. Omeish was there as one of the foremost leaders," Becker said.

He is a lying sack of giraffe crap. More terrorist apologists in our midst.
Quran honors and promotes deceit to advance Islam against the Infidels.
Kaine and co. are the people who appointed this guy. Kaine has shown himself to be totally incompetent.
ANSWER and Ibrahim Hooper of CAIR are now trying to defend Omeish, what a surprise.
Caught by his own lips.
The type of Christian “leaders” who support this guy probably daydream about being dhimmitude as a way to assuage their guilt about being American. They privately hate themselves and their religion and are most motivated when presented with a chance to apologize for Jihadists and/or promote gay marriage or clergy.
You gotta love YouTube. I celebrate that this guy’s WORDS were caught on tape. I celebrate his tap-dancing, too, as he seeks to redefine Islamic Jihad. Sorry, buddy, we don’t buy it.
I thought it was interesting that the article did not name the “Christian leaders” who supposedly support this guy.
The next bad apple that needs to go is a guy by the name of Faisal Gill.
There are lots of reasons.
That is always the foolproof defense, when one's statements are truly taken out of context and, as a result, twisted and abused to mean something one clearly did not intent to convey.
The only missing ingredient now is the entire context and all of the actual words used.
What were they?

"I was taken out of context" does not mean I got caught being a duplicitous S.O.B. and those are the magic words American politicians and race baiters use to wiggle out of it!
D'OH!
It's next to DC.
Total dedication to power, corruption, lies and helping yourself is endemic there.
That may be its meaning, more generally. But in the context of Islam and its associated religious texts, jihad means killing or otherwise subjugating the "infidel" (non-believer) and the apostate (Muslims who deviate from the status quo).
The Koran exhorts believers to deceive the infidel. Deport this Jihad-promoting, lying-sack, Dr. Omeish to hell.
Northern Virginia is infested with many other things besides Muslims. For example, North Arlington and Alexandria are infested with liberal Hippies. (How else do you think Rep. Moran gets elected?)
South Arlington is a ghetto. The U.S. 1 corridor is infested with illegals and, more generally, is a high-crime area.
Great Falls, McLean, and parts of Vienna are infested with Washington elitists (politicians, lobbyists, and their ilk).
I thought the same. Let’s have these “Christian” “leaders” be named so we can see what they really are.
At least the KKK and German Nazis were up front about their supremacist beliefs (even though they lied to back up their assertions).
The Islamic supreamcists in our midst hem and haw.
Where was the outrage over yet another prayer of conversion by the Iranian dictator?
Germany has found that they cannot peacefully live with “tolerance” for Nazism. The world will wake up to the same understanding of Islamic Supremacist ideology as well.
Their struggle is your struggle. They struggle with you because you won’t submit.
I went to the link in the article, and
still don't have a clue what this outstanding citizen said.
All of it.
So I might judge for myself if the accusations are accurate, and if this orchestrated "defense" is worth a bucketful of spit...
The WaPo presents these radical, left wing groups to us as if they’re mainstream, innocent do-gooders.
Brian Becker?

“Brian Becker is a Co-Director of Ramsey Clark’s International Action Center (IAC) and a member of International A.N.S.W.E.R.’s steering committee. Both are front groups for the Communist Workers World Party (WWP). Through his association with these organizations, Becker has been a prominent figure in the anti-war movement’s massive rallies against the war on terror.
Becker is a member of the Secretariat of the WWP of the United States, which is a staunch supporter of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. As Chairman of the “U.S. Troops out of Korea Committee,” Becker has accused the United States of conducting a campaign of genocide against North Korea. He is a contributor to the WWP newspaper Workers World.”
International ANSWER?
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6147
“International ANSWER (an acronym for “Act Now to Stop War and End Racism”) is run by Ramsey Clark’s International Action Center, which is staffed by members of the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party (WWP). ANSWER views the United States as a racist, imperialist, sexist, homophobic nation and the world’s chief violator of human rights — guilty of unspeakable atrocities, past and present, foreign and domestic.”
And Ramsey Clark, along with members of various “church groups” have just been placed on an immigration blacklist in the Phillipines for being “Al Qaida/Taliban linked.”
Wouldn’t be surprised if some of the “Christian leaders” standing by Omeish are included.

Crusade also means struggle, but I defy any Christian to use it and not have the Moslems raise a bloody racket.
I believe in the personal crusade. I think everyone in the West needs to live out their own personal crusade.
Let’s all use the word from now on. I’m tired of these people.
