LOS ANGELES -- The City Council in Calabasas plans to discuss a proposal Wednesday on whether to extend its anti-smoking law to some homes.

Council members may consider a law that would prohibit renters from lighting up inside apartments. Current resident smokers would be exempted from the ban as long as they stayed in the same apartment.

The law would require all new buildings with at least 15 units to be smoke-free; the law would cover condominiums, as well as apartment buildings.

I always joked that the day would come when it would be illegal to even smoke in your own home. Never thought it would actually happen. Guess I should know by now to never underestimate the overbearing and increasing power of nanny-staters in what used to be the United States of America.

Not a smoker, hate it, but wow, this is way to much control or just a country on the verge of getting way out of control with our freedoms. Whats next, smokers are part of the fight on the WOT?

I AM a smoker, though I never smoke indoors. Belmont (Northern California just south of San Francisco) has prohibited smoking OUTDOORS within ANY apartment or condo complex.

I live in a high rise, and i agree with NOT smoking in the hallways/common areas where there is no fresh air. The smoke just lingers. Yes, I am a wimp when it comes to breathing the cig smoke. That should not include banning someone from smoking on their own balcony.

Inside a persons home, condo, apartment, is way to intrusive.

Well, the health Nazis know what’s best for us after all. We can’t be allowed to make our own decisions about what food we eat, what we drink, what we smoke or how often we go see a doctor. Hillary and the Silky Pony know so much more about what’s good for us than we do.

Good idea. I understand obesity is or threatens to become epidemic. I suggest the city council should mandate physical training from 0630-0730 hours for anyone deemed overweight after a routine weigh-in and tape-test. Check with your doctor before beginning any exercise regimen.

LOL. Classic!

You are correct, everyone know whats best for us, but they are also the same nitwits that do not practice what they preach. Make a speech about saving the enviroment and all of a sudden they are a green god saving enviromentalist only to hope in a 5 car caravan and be driven to the airport to fly on a private jet. YOU got to love these wonderful people!

This was coming. It was their agenda all along. We told you that they work incrementally, and you didn’t believe us. First it’s restaurants. Then offices. Then bars. Then private residences.
After smoking, it will be Christian literature and symbols. Don’t believe it? You had better believe it.

>>The law would require all new buildings with at least 15 units to be smoke-free; the law would cover condominiums, as well as apartment buildings.<<

With new buildings it would seem like they could make them not leak fumes from unit to another.

The only time I’ve ever had a problem with this was an older (but expensive) townhouse. Smokers moving in next door and the smoke leaking into our kitchen and laundry room was one factor in our moving out.

Communists. I am guessing that there is an ulterior motive. I suspect Calabasas councilmen are prejudiced against apartment and condo dwellers because they tend to be poorer, and so are making it less desirable for these people to live there and consequently less economically feasible for developers to build affordable housing there.

I think there is a huge class action suit just waiting to happen against the city of Calabasas based on class and economic discrimination.
