I think those Pear Cable speaker wires would have to be pear-anormal.

You know that your cables are great if you can hear into the 24k - 666k range, where the spirits live in the music and they tell you stuff...

I prefer the 10-12hz range where the devil lives!

No, it’s an illustration of pure hokum, and where the hell is the FTC when you need them?

Speaker wire only cares about distance. Up to about 50 feet, the diameter or gauge of the wire matters very little and only from a power loss factor. What’s ironic is what most often is seen, are big fat speaker wires and an underpowered amplifier. Contrary to popular belief most speaker failures are from too little (distorted) power, not too much. But anyway if you look inside your stereo, any stereo, there will be little bitty eeny weenie tiny wires that are soldered to the speaker terminals. If you look inside your speakers, you will see little bitty teeny weeny wires soldered to the other end, and, inside the voice coil, hundreds of yards of very fine enamel coated wire.

16 or 18 gauge “lampcord” is just fine, from a sonic/electrical standpoint. Hell, just buy a couple pairs of jumper cables and call it a day. But it’s a marketing thing I suppose. I think $50 or maybe a bit more for honking big cable is OK, because it is robust and the insulation should be of good quality, and have nice heavy duty spade lugs. Anything more than that is too much.

Notice what would really be practical is flat ribbon, which would be placed under carpets but I suspect when somebody kicks out 8 large for speaker wire they want to show it off. Hm.

Seems to be a high pitched whistle to some MP3 and other digital oddities. I use the apple lossless coding too, and Itunes seems to be pretty good. CDs burned at home seems to be the best of all sound quality wise - though I haven’t yet fed the audio through my stereo, I gotta try that. I don’t really mind overall because I can carry around thousands of songs in something that fits in my shirt pocket.

You’re joking about the 12ax7 pre amp tube in your mouse, right?

Here is his non official response posted to member Don of DIY Mobile Audio.

Hello Don,
Nice to hear from you. Yes, by now we have heard about this challenge (although we were never contacted directly). Unfortunately, like most offers of $1 million this one is a hoax. While James Randi is claiming to offer a $1 million dollar prize to differentiate between these speaker cables, by reading the official rules of the challenge, it becomes immediately clear that the offer is not valid. One must be able to "demonstrate any psychic, supernatural or paranormal ability" in order to qualify. Since there is a wealth of scientific information explaining the differences between speaker cables, the offer is not a valid one (and James Randi knows it).

While we publish a frequency response plot demonstrating the differences between cables on our own website here: http://www.pearcable.com/sub_product...cyresponse.htm, there are also independant measurements and data that can be found for example here: http://www.audiodesignline.com/howto...leID=201807390 In addition, the High School eductated James Randi who claims...

Full article: Pear cable CEO calls James Randi's offer a hoax

Using the liberal tactic of attacking the character of a person. He mentions more than once about James Randi having only a high school education and he misspells it "eductated". This is the CEO of Pear Audio Cables.

I was initially looking up a way to make a speaker cable with 1/4” phono plugs using lamp cord 14 gage, after reading that using instrument cable to connectan amp to a speaker cabinet is bad and can mess up the amp and speakers pretty bad. What I still haven’t found out yet is if this applies to speaker cable from a guitar amp to a guitar cabinet, or just a home stereo amp to their speakers which usually uses a banana plug or the bare wire. Any help would be appreciated.

Mr G (the audio engineer) says the following “I tunes, preferences, playback, sound enhancer... uncheck sound enhancer. That will make it play music normally.” He said “sound enhancer” is “on” as the default setting and it is a dimension altering affect that is offensive to him (and most audio people).

"Let’s not forget quantum dots, the Tice clock and outboard cable break-in hardware, just to name a few."

Ahhhh, quantum dots!!! We had those running around in Nashville for a while. Some guy tried to sell Mr G on them to use in his studio designs..... even took him to hear them someplace. (Mr G knew it was horsefeathers, but his client was impressed by the sales pitch and needed G to teach him) The one wrapped around a picture frame was the final straw that cause great gales of laughter.

The Tice clock and outboard cable break-in hardware we seem to have missed.

One of our favorite cons is the 3 foot cable that runs between the guitar and amp with little arrows on it so that you are sure to "plug it in the right way". We have actually had guitarists insist on retakes because it was plugged in wrong!

Of course. It’s just a standard MS optical mouse.

No, it’s BECAUSE of the managers and CEOs that the stores are the way they are...it is the young sales force that is often forced to hock magazines, store credit cards, warranties and accessories or face the prospect of losing their job or not getting raises or promotions.

“No, it’s BECAUSE of the managers and CEOs that the stores are the way they are...”

Oh, I’d agree with that. What I meant was those CEOs and managers
probably don’t shop at their own stores...otherwise they’d realize
they’d do better with a less pressurized atmosphere.

I was just mentioning that I actually have had at least one good experience
at a Best Buy/Circuit City.
I’m sure the reason for the other crappy situations was that I was
having encounters with the sharks that were winning the evolutionary
struggle for survival as sales-persons at Big Box/Circuit City.

Otherwise, I stay the h-ll out of the places as much as possible.
And, if possible, buy at the one hassle-free Big Box in my neck of the woods.

You really only need audiophile quality equipment for symphonic music. Typical rock music - which sounds like barrels of metallic recycling being rolled down the stairs - actually is improved by the distortion introduced by cheap equipment.
