Children Hospitalized After Eating Sweets

Twenty-three children in the Philippines were hospitalized after eating sweets made in China, officials said yesterday.

The pupils, aged nine and 10, were rushed to hospital on Thursday suffering from stomach aches, vomiting and dizziness after eating candy given out at a birthday party on Bantayan Island near Cebu.

Romelo Mates, an adviser at an elementary school in the town of Madridejos, said that according to its wrapper, the Ube Milk Candy was made in Guangdong, China.

Mates told local media the children were kept in overnight for observation and four were given intravenous liquid after showing signs of weakness.

The Cebu provincial government is now examining the sweets.

Last month, the Philippines education department banned four Chinese food products from school canteens following reports they contained cancer-causing formaldehyde.

China has been battling to improve the reputation of its products amid fears over food safety.

Industrial oils, acid, cancer-causing chemicals and other dangerous ingredients have been found in thousands of food items such as baby milk powder, rice and flour.

The candy is being recalled because of too much lead.

Scary to think that our medicines are made over there.

Kinda makes you begin to wonder just how many deaths and adverse side-effects to medication are really due to the active ingredient.....

Will this and all of the dozens of other incidents of intentional poisoning of innocents by the mainland commie slopes EVER be covered in detail by the NY Slimes and their quisling pals in the Mainslime media?

Just so you don’t feel at all safe this is from 2004:

April 9, 2004

FDA Statement on Lead Contamination in Certain Candy Products Imported from Mexico

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is aware of a problem associated with lead contamination of some Mexican candy products being sold in the United States and is advising parents, care providers and other responsible individuals that it would be prudent to not allow children to eat these products at this time.

We always had reason to boycott Chinese products for the sake of national security; now we have reason for the sake of personal health.

Go into Wally World and Kroger. All of the generic brand candy is made in Mexico. I told my wife, no candy from Mexico. Period.

I threw out all of my rice vermicelli made in China. No more. I get stuff mostly from Thailand and Korea. Korean food quality is much better than the Chinese.

I’m really beginning to look hard at my Made in China, every day coffee cups from Wal-Mart. Just plain white with maybe a clear glaze.

Anyone know much about how cheap dishes are made?

You should have bought the cheap “made in Bangladesh” ones at Walmart.

As for Candy, I have a solution. Don’t buy it. It only makes your ass twice the size it should be anyways, and your’s kids too. Plus costs you a fortune to fix rotten teeth.

If you really MUST have canady, make it yourself. That way it will be appreciated as a rare treat like it used to be, and kids really liked to help make it rather than play video games.

So what is it this time? Anti-freeze as a sweetener? Formaldehyde? Tainted water used to make the sweets?
