I noticed that the weapons, many of them toy lookalikes, were taken “from the home of” the teen.

No indication that they belonged to the teen, especially the 9mm “assault rifle”.

Dad just lost his collection!

The picture that goes along with the news article makes it look real scary, but most are toy guns, according to the article.

Who bullies you when you’re home-schooled? Your little sister?

“The weapons included a 9 mm assault rifle that the teenager’s mother had recently bought for him, Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said. Prosecutors are reviewing her actions.”

Gee, ya think?

From the article:

"...police conducted a search of the teen's home and recovered a cache of weapons...Officers recovered a 9mm assault rifle..."

A cache of airsoft replicas. The article shows a camera scanning over a table of several airsoft replicas.

Officers recovered a 9mm assault rifle..."

The only real gun on the table is a Hi-Point 9mm carbine rifle (Which is NOT an assault rifle).

I seriously doubt that any of those grenades are real.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh is not a school where you would typically expect problems. My brother lives not far from there, and his three kids all graduated from P-W. It is a good school in a nice upscale Philadelphia suburb.

Officers recovered a 9mm assault rifle, various realistic air guns, explosive black powder and four hand grenades, one of which was active.

Authorities said the teen had been constructing the three inactive grenades in order to make them operational.

Books on how to make explosives, videos of the Columbine shooting and notebooks full of plans, and details of violent acts were also recovered from the teen's home.

Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor said the 14-year-old youth, who had a 9mm semi-automatic rifle purchased by his mother, did not have any ammunition for the weapon.
...
Castor said the youth had attended Plymouth schools until 18 months ago, when his parents started home-schooling him because he was being bullied by other students.
...
The mother may also be charged, he said. The mother legally purchased the gun at a gun show, specifically for her son, said Castor. The gun has a laser sight.

It makes one wonder just how involved those parents are...

Sure, there are kids that have problems, but if parents did their jobs right...these types of things could be avoided/prevented, etc.

Just my $.02

Imagine if the cops searched your home and laid the results out on a table in front of reporters. Probably at least a half dozen rifles, an equal number of pistols (an arsenal), hunting knives, boxes of ammunition (thousands of rounds if you have a few bricks of 22 LR), bunches of gun magazines (evidence of gun nuttiness), maybe a syringe for applying oil and a power scale (drug parafinalia). If you have reloading equipment you are manufacturing ammunition. A few pounds of gun powder = bomb making equipment. It’s easy for them to make virtually anyone look like a dangerous lunatic.

This school is my alma mater...
So I know quite a bit about the area.
And we have been getting info all day on this. Most of the parents picked the kids up at school. School will resume tomorrow.
So far from what we have been told the mother bought the teen a 9mm. It was in his possession. Most of his guns are paint ball guns but there was a grenade that was ready to go. Yes he was home schooled and believe me whoever said it was an assault on home schooling cant be more wrong. So lets not let misinformation get in the way. He was home schooled because he had been bullied is all we know. But we respect home schooling and I have found the schools around here pretty supportive with it.
The kid wanted a friend of his to help him with his plan. The teen he asked told his father and the father went to the police. This kid and family need help. Personally I am saying some prayers for them and thanking God as well that it was caught before someone got hurt.
