Musharrif or Bhutto?

Neither one would be good.

That place is a nuclear ticking time bomb, if al-Qaida & Taliban thugs somehow gain control of the government and its nuclear weapons arsenal.

“Islamic militants paraded 48 men on Friday described as government troops who surrendered during fighting — an embarrassment to President Gen. Pervez Musharraf as he struggles to regain control of a mountainous region from Taliban and al-Qaida-linked extremists.

Islamic militants said Saturday they had taken control of a police station in the volatile northwest region, hoisting their flag over its roof.”

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/11/03/pakistan.emergency/index.html

LAHORE, Pakistan (CNN) -- Plagued by increasing violence and unrest, the Pakistani government will declare a state of emergency, private networks reported Saturday. President Pervez Musharraf has faced a flurry of criticism from opponents in Pakistan.

Shortly after that report, most media channels went off the air because of an apparent media blackout.

Government sources told CNN officials were meeting at the presidency, and an announcement would be made later Saturday.

The nation's political atmosphere has been tense for months, with Pakistani leaders in August considering the imposition of a state of emergency because of the growing security threats in the country's lawless tribal regions.

But President Pervez Musharraf, influenced in part by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, held off on the move.

Since that time Musharraf has faced a flurry of criticism from the opposition, who demand the general abandon his position as Pakistan's military chief before becoming eligible to seek a third presidential term.

For weeks the country has been coasting in a state of political limbo while the Supreme Court works to tackle legal challenges filed by the opposition that calls into question Musharraf's eligibility to hold office.

Complicating matters even more was October's presidential elections, where Musharraf garnered a vast a majority of the votes.

The election results have not yet been made certified by the high court
