WASHINGTON - The losing streak for those who want to see a broadening of immigration benefits continued today when Sen. Dianne Feinstein decided she could not successfully add the Ag Jobs bill to the farm bill being debated on the floor this week.
"When we took a clear-eyed assessment of the politics of the farm bill and the defeat of the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform, it became clear that our support could not sustain these competing forces," Feinstein, D-Calif., said in a statement.
The Ag Jobs bill would allow many undocumented immigrant workers to get legal status and would also start a new temporary program for future farm labor.
Feinstein has been trying for years to get this bill passed, either on its own or as part of the two comprehensive immigration packages that have gone down to defeat in the past two years.
After several weeks of courting her colleagues, it became clear to Feinstein that she didn't have the 60 votes she'd need to overcome an expected filibuster by opponents who consider Ag Jobs an amnesty that they don't want. Even some supporters of her measure didn't want to see it muddy up a complex farm measure...
...The failure of the DREAM Act, which would have provided legal status to students who were brought here as young children, who graduated from high school here and went on to college or the military, was another indication that getting any immigration expansion passed this year was going to be close to impossible.
But Feinstein said she isn't giving up. She will ask Majority Leader Harry Reid to schedule floor time for Ag Jobs either later this year...

In between profiting from Red China why doesn’t this milionaire spend some time representing Americans?

Democrats waking up that AMNESTY is a killer issue for them? Who knew, surly someone in the media would have told them if they knew.
Looks like AMNESTY is going to be an 2008 election issue and motor voter is in play. Hillary Matters is up front with her approval of drivers license for illegals, lets see how long that lasts.
It isn't just Democrats. Would be interesting to see how McCain would have voted on this, and other Republicans who were smote by being on the wrong side of the Senate Amnesty bill.
“Looks like AMNESTY is going to be an 2008 election issue.”....that gives Hillary plenty of time to decide if she is for or against it. Wanna bet we here the same tortured logic she gave us on drivers lic. for illegals?....I’m sick of her speeches already! BARF ALERT!
When nationwide polls show support for no AMNESTY about 80% you are in trouble supporting it. It also does not bode well for Santuary City Rudy or Mitt who did nothing until he decided to run for President. The top LIBERAL Republican tier is not going to make it.
AMNESTY is “The Issue” in 2008.
The other pusher on Agjobs was Larry Craig, who is being a bit quieter about it these days.
She voted for AMNESTY the first time, and successive times. The Democrats were so hell-bent on sticking to Republicans, they repeatedly voted for AMNESTY. The need to get out more often and listen to the people more.
Right you are.
LOL! This Congress will be known as the “Can’t do anything Congress”.
That's because he changed his stance.

Well I told Eric Blair 2084 earlier I wouldn't be doing to many of these extras. Oh well - this is too good to pass up...

.....snicker....
Does anyone know if Texas House Bill 1196 applies to agriculture? This law took effect in September and relates to restrictions on the use of certain public subsidies to certain businesses who knowingly employ undocumented workers.
Plenty of time for her to do that later on.....
Larry Craig is just “stalling” and tapping his foot impatiently on many issues as a sitting senator, and he isn’t flush enough to be able to afford running for re-election....
Damn. They need to be spanked on amnesty several more times in order to get the message. Although, it seems it might be getting through their rather dense skulls, given the reaction and fall out from Mrs. Clinton’s endorsement of drivers licenses for illegals.
