Batons Beat Anti-War crowd, Fails to Knock Sense Into Them

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Police used batons to clear roads around the Port of Olympia and made one arrest during an anti-war protest in which demonstrators tried to block military convoys.

More than 100 people chanted slogans, some protesters tried to run in front of the convoys and others dumped garbage on roads Wednesday night to try to halt the transport of gear for an Army Stryker brigade that recently returned to nearby Fort Lewis from Iraq.

"We do everything at the lowest level possible," Bjornstad said. "We've had officers spit on tonight. I'm very impressed by the restraint used by the officers tonight. They've had to put up with an awful lot."

Some demonstrators disagreed.

"People were shoved back to the sidewalk. I was shoved across my collarbone with a billy club," said Allie Van Nostran, 18, an Evergreen State College student.

If she really is a student at Evergreen, she probably deserved more than just a club pushed against her clavicle

Remember the guy that tried to block a freight train leaving a Nuclear Weapons facility by kneeling on the tracks? That ain’t growing back.

Thanks for the post, but you shouldn’t change headlines. It creates a false impression of how stories are reported.

Where is that “oh, the humanity” Hindenburg picture when you need it?

And to top it off, this guy is a “Greener”!

For those not from Washington, nobody takes a diploma from Evergreen state seriously. It is where “true blue” hippies go to die or pass on the flame to the next generation.

OK. First time, I’d seen others do it, so I didn’t realize it was a Faux pa. Won’t happen again.

LOL! You couldn’t knock any sense into the moonbats at Evergreen with a sledge hammer.

Also present but at a different corner of an intersection outside the port were about two dozen people who said they wanted to show support for the military.

FReepers?

“Remember the guy that tried to block a freight train leaving a Nuclear Weapons facility by kneeling on the tracks? That ain’t growing back.”

Brian Willson.

My take on that “accident” is that they were trying to film a dramatic “hair’s breadth escape”, and blew the timing. When it comes to a moving train, there is a point, say when the train is fifty feet or so from you, where NO MATTER HOW SLOWLY IT IS MOVING, if it has not already stopped, anyone with half a brain has to assume it ain’t going to stop short of you.

IIRC, Mr. Willson waited until the train was less than ten feet away and then tried to flee, all the time on camera, but tripped and got run over. He’s not the first guy to play “chicken” with a train and come out second best, nor is he the last.

This isn’t an “anti-war protest” — it’s sabotage.

Guess he'd have to take the runner up position; or,

His argument doesn't have a leg to stand on; or,

He's more than two feet from the truth;

etc.

Better yet, hire an Israeli to clear the way with a bulldozer.

Some folks I know - not FReepers (at least not mostly), just good people that care. They also stand with their flags on overpasses just to show support.

Here I am doing all I can to mail stuff to my kid and his buddies, and along come these phlegm-wads trying to stop military convoys.

Why don't these creeps protest in front of a Post Office as the spouses and parents of military personnel are mailing their packages?
