Brasilia - A large new oil reserve has been found in Brazil. The exact size of the reserves is unknown, but Brasilia is optimistic. Minister for Energy Dilma Roussef believes they could make Brazil just as big an oil producer as Venezuela and some Arabic countries. One of the oil fields off the coast of Sao Paulo is thought to contain 8 billion barrels of oil.

So where does this put the peak now? And how can we turn Brazil into a left wing bastion that is bent on toppling the US?
Enquiring Democrats want to know.

Seeing as how they have all that sugarcane ethanol, they can send the oil up to us.

So why doesn’t GWB just sign an exucutive order and start drilling ASAP? I can’t understand this. What is wrong with us?

Bush could do it at any time he'd choose. To be secure in our own supply of oil is a national security issue. Now, more than ever.

Bush chooses not to because he's spineless and the Congressional Republicans can't find their own hind-legs for the demoncrat boots they continue to lick.

“Interestng that just as somebody declares the oil is running out,”

The only thing that is “running out” with respect to fossil fuels is the western worlds’ political class suicidal march to stop exploring for it, quit developing new technologies for assisting that exploration and quit developing new technologies for extracting it and extracting more of it in a given location.

And their own offering? “Renewable Energy” And what does it mean, generally speaking (because it does not mean nuclear). Generally speaking it means “bio” fuels.

So, everyone, please understand the insane reality.

Were it not for how we use it for energy, most “fossil fuels” and the largest quantity of fossil fuels would remain useless to us and be left underground where they are. But, we take these otherwise useless materials and we convert them to energy.

And “bio” fuels?

They all require basic and very finite assets that are both very precious and quite valuable to us - arable land and water especially - for many areas of life, basic areas of life (like food?).

What would be the result of a completely “bio” fuels world?

Everything not related to energy that requires land and water will become much more expensive (tell me what on your grocery shelf has not already demonstrated this since the “ethanol” legislation), raising the cost of living for everyone - gently at first and more rapidly as the legislation-dictated demand increases, and eventually hitting in increasing severity depending on how low someone’s income is - because it will affect everything and basics most of all.

The CO2 “greens” are not even good “socialists”, they are just plain, and dangerous, idiots.

I wonder at what level of economic viability does an oil field become 'proven'?

I would think that there are numerous deposits that have not been extracted because the cost was greater than the value when oil was $15-25 per barrel. It would be interesting to know what is lying around the continental US that has not been drilled and how much per barrel it would cost... notwithstanding the insane 'greenies' who obstruct what they can obstruct for the sake of anarchy.

Are we still friends with Brazil? Or do we piss them off by trying to speak Spanish to them?
