Mellencamp, standing alone on stage with his guitar, then launched into Tough It Out and Be the Best You Can followed by Jesus Can You Give Me a Ride Back Home? and another song about youth and love. The crowd erupted as he started Small Town and sang the lyrics as though Wells Fargo Arena were one of those sing-along piano bars.
It's at this point Mellencamp gestures and John Edwards walks on stage. After a few cheers boos overtake the hall. "I've been in your small towns," Edwards said as Mellencamp stepped aside to give Edwards a place behind the microphone. "...You didn't come here to listen to me," Edwards continues as he winds down with a "thank you," waves and walks to the darkened edge of the stage.
The crowd is mostly booing at this point. "I came for a concert," one man behind me yelled. "Refund. Refund," another chanted a few rows back. One person in the crowd made this observation: "Are they booing Edwards specifically or booing because they don't like politics?" Mellencamp tells the crowd he's "had a lot of fun with that guy," and begins playing his guitar and singing Small Town again. The crowd slowly begins to sing along again. Edwards stood on the darkened edge of the stage until the song was over, then exited. Mellencamp didn't say anything at the song's end, and there was a swell of chatter among the audience members.
To be fair, this is the reason pols tend to avoid interrupting rock concerts and baseball games, and if you think this is bad, imagine Hillary's reception. Still.
UPDATE: But was the "refund" guy a Clinton plant?
Why don’t these idiots understand we DON’T CARE WHAT THEY THINK POLITICALLY.
Shut up and sing.
OH my Gawd, what a gag moment. Stupid Mellencamp is such a lib fool.
Like his songs, detest his politics.
This exactly why I won’t buy anymore of his music..nor will I buy a ticket to one of his shows.
Kirby
I'll do better than that.
A couple of years ago I was on the floor of the commodities exchange One day she walked on to the floor toward the Gold ring (draw your own conclusions about that). Hillary beams and her face sends a very distinct message, "Thank you, yes, you are SO glad to see me. Thank you." She mader herself look like the sun itself appearing in springtime. It was rather sick.
Commodities traders are pretty skeptical about most things. And the coffee traders in particular are, shall we say, outspoken. As soon as they spotted the Iron Maiden, they errupted in chanting "HILLARY SUCKS! HILLARY SUCKS!" It went on for a few rounds.
Of course, nobody cares about what happens on the commodities floor. And if it were the New York Stock Exchange, all members would have gotten the memo about "rules of decorum and fines for violations," so a nice photo-op could have happened, and all the media could blast the images into the public consciousness, just like Goebbels would have wanted.
"Little Pink Houses." C'mon. ;)
They are all spoiled brats with way too much money and egos to boot, Herself the First of Charlatan included.
who would that be?
Two Beautiful Breck Girls and One Douche-Bag!
What a couple of Idiots. I like Couger’s music but his politcs are way out there. Edwards was a schmuck to do that because he should have known Cougar’s base are more traditional kind of folks.
Edwards must be pretty desperate in Iowa to impose himself on a venue in such a pathetic way. It’s probably a net loss as far as votes go.
He should stick to having his wife do the heavy lifting.
This says something very damaging about Mellancamp.
What else would you expect from Cougarcamp Mellonhead? Their first mistake was buying the ticket. Mellonhead’s view of America is typical liberal doom and gloom.
I like that. Why don’t we ever hear about this good stuff.
Hillary Sucks. How appropriate.
Nah. Edwards is no threat to her. Most people see through that phony. What surprises me is Mellonhead supporting him. I figured him to be more of an Osamabama or "Draft Gore" type.
God Bless ye laddies, God Bless ye. Brings a tear to me eyes.
