“Ooh-rah!” What else did you think Marine Iraq war veteran Daniel Gilyeat would yell when he saw his new home? Today was the day Gilyeat and his four children finally got to see what a crew of hundreds has been working on for the past week: their new home, compliments of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

My old home area - made me cry. Also watched story about Boy Scout troop putting out flags along I-35 in Merriam. Did you notice their troop is sponsored by RLDS church? Wonder if Romney knows??

I haven’t been out on I-35 for awhile so I haven’t seen the flags. KMBC has been all over the home makeover and watching on the news the many Marines in attendance at the revealing brought a shiver down my spine. I have to find the original article on this guy - something about his wife divorcing him, but he has all the kids. I did notice some smart ass comments in the KC (Red) Star. Figures.

Where are you now located?

I am allergic to these extreme home makeovers - they always make my eyes water.

Here’s the original article. If you google his name, there are many more. God Bless this fine man.

OMG, mine too! It’s amazing how every week at the same time my eyes begin to water. Pesky allergies.

Thanks for the link for the Marine and his new home. Seeing presence of all the military and flags was a thrill. Story about flags was on a video that was on same site. Am now in Texico or Mexas - not sure what to call it any more. Raised my kids in JoCo. Best place in the world for family. People in that part of the country understand real patriotism. Miss the Christmas lights on the Plaza. KCMO has a great new Mayor-you are lucky!

And now his problems truly begin dealing with all that shoddy workmanship.

I have the same problem. This show particularly. We need to be sure and express our appreciation to the producers and sponsors of this show.

I moved back to Prairie Village after being in Los Angeles for 18 years and it is so nice to be home. I actually purchased my very first house and even adopted 2 puppies - something I could never have done in LA. I love driving through the Plaza and looking at the lights - such a beautiful open market place. Everything is growing like wildfire out south - there’s now no distinction between OP and Olathe. I should have bought a home years ago in Gardner or Edgerton for nothing - I could be in some money now!

“The house is also designed to have very little exterior upkeep.”

Yes, but I keep thinking who is the unlucky person who has to clean the inside?

No, it won’t be on until 2008, I’m sure. There’s lots of editing, voice overs, etc. to be done first.

Speaking of Televised tearjerker moments, the other night I was watching Gene Simmons (from KISS) stupid reality show. He took his daughter to the VA hospital at Camp Pendleton (I believe) and they spoke with vets from Vietnam and Iraq. He was genuinely choked up and the vets were very glad he came.

Then they had a great auditorium scene where he had members of every branch of the military and each sang their songs...CAISSONS GO ROLLING ALONG..ANCHORS AWAY...HERE WE GO INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER and then GOD BLESS AMERICA to a Rock and Roll beat.

It was genuinely moving, in a Hollywood, set up kind of way!

I saw that episode when it first aired. Talk about choking up! I like Gene Simmons - he’s been interviewed by H&C or O’Reilly - I don’t remember by whom.
