Turkish tanks advancing near borders with Iraq (possible large scale invasion against Iraq?)
Voices of Iraq via Iraq Updates ^ | 2007 Nov 17

Turkish tanks were seen advancing towards the Iraqi borders on a background of Turkish threats to raid northern Iraq to hunt down fighters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) holed up in mountainous areas on the Iraqi side of the joint frontiers, border guards and witnesses in Duhuk said on Friday.

"More than 17 Turkish tanks drew near three kilometers from the district of Zakho, close to the Iraqi-Turkish borders," Col. Hussein Tamr told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

Eyewitnesses from the village of Qargula, western Zakho, said they saw Turkish tanks near the borders where their village lies on Friday morning.

The crisis on the Iraqi-Turkish borders unprecedentedly flared up recently after the PKK, or Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan in Kurdish, which is banned in Turkey, escalated operations against Turkish forces. Fighters of the PKK had killed, wounded and captured more than 40 Turkish soldiers lately.

Possibly, but 17 is not a big number.

Yes, we should congratulate Piglosi for her support of Islamofascist Turks, wisely allowing Turkey to invade Iraq. Democrats and Islamofascists are friends. She had setup this unrest to give freedom to Turkey to attack our Kurdish Christian brothers.

< sarcasm >congratulate< /sarcasm >
Will this make the context more clear, or should I have said "curse" Piglosi for her support of Islamofascist Turks?

Not as long as the USA military forces are in Iraq.

It "ain't gonna" be contemplated.

I think sarcasm tags would have been more appropriate around the description of ‘Islamofascist Turks’ and ‘Christian Kurdish brothers’. Turkey is an avowedly secular country and an ally, and the Kurds are by and large practicing muslims who are not above a little honour killing every now and again to put women back in their place...

This has to be stopped. This is where Condi Rice needs to go. It’s exactly the same situation as the Basque seperatists between France and Spain in the Pyrinees mountains. They didn’t blow anything up for years. When they used to, they were gentlemen and told the Guardia Nacional 15 minutes before so nobody got hurt.

Exactly right. Neither the Turks nor the US can afford to have their forces ‘bump’. NATO allies. Not good.

‘Turkey is an avowedly secular country’ — you forgot the part about that they recently elected a very conservative, pro-sharia law person, they are killing/ bombing/ torturing and killing/ etc. Christians in Istanbul, the women are very heavily ‘bagged’ in that country, etc. I have a Turkish friend,Christian, recent immigrant here. “You do NOT want to be in an Islamic country,” she said.

Psst, the Kurdish insurgents are Islamic fundamentalists and tribalists. And the Turkish military is secularist -versus the Islamists in Turkey who want to get rid of secular government. The Turkish military is resisting Islamists in Turkey and fighting their own insurgency against Islamists across the border.

This place is a snakepit and a fiscal/military black hole.

Sad but true. Welcome to the Middle East.

The creation of Iraq was a mistake by Churchill. Trying to bring togther 3 ethnic groups that never got along is never a good idea. Only a bloodthristy dictator like Saddam could keep it together. It will never succeed as a democracy. It will always be a failure.

The Brit occupied Iraq for over 30 years and they still couldn't make it a viable country. Do we really want to stay there that long?

you are so wrong.....

the kurd ~ turkey anamous has been around for decades....but piglosi...the lib/dems (kind of like you) give cover for the turks to seek to ramp up military action in northern iraq...the US WAS using turkey a a supply route until piglosi & crew decided to bring up armenian genocide when the US troops had been doing well....guess piglosi...the lib/dems and you support the troops enough to endanger supply lines and a new potential front to protect!!!!

17 is not a big number

It is if your main weapon is a 70 year old rifle.
