Members of a small Kansas congregation known for its anti-gay message say they plan to demonstrate during a memorial service Friday for a Bremerton soldier killed in Afghanistan.
That comes following passage of a state law in January, which requires protestors to remain 500 feet or more from funeral processions, the grave site and the funeral home or building where a funeral service is taking place. The law was passed in response to protests at soldiers' funerals.
The funeral is for Sgt. 1st Class Johnny C. Walls, a 1985 Bremerton High graduate who died Nov. 2 of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire. His mother, stepfather, sister and a pair of grandparents live in Port Orchard.
Church officials contacted the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office to tell it that five to 10 members would be picketing at the busy intersection of Bethel Road and Lund Avenue, Wilson said. The group also lists the demonstration on its Web site.
The intersection the group indicated is a couple of miles away from Christian Life Center, where the 2 p.m. service will take place. The church's address is 1780 SE Lincoln Ave.

These eejits just took an $11M beat-down for one of their other previous protests.....

If they arrive in a car, it should be confiscated and auctioned off to the people in the crowd.
I’ll be there with you in spirit.
“Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka have gained notoriety by demonstrating at military funerals across the country, claiming God is killing troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to punish the United States for tolerating homosexuality.”.....Too much lead in the Topeka water supply perhaps?
If these people want to protest, they should protest the government officials based on the policies they support. To denegrate the funeral services of service members is an unChristian thing to do.
I don’t believe our God would approve of people denegrating the funeral services of men who sacrificed their life to rescue others. As I recall, there was a very well known person who left His home to give up His life to rescue others.
These troops are in the theater of war. They are trying to establish peace. And if the adversaries would lay down their guns and live in peace, the war would be over and our troops could come home.
It is not our troops fault that people keep lining up to confront them and die.
Give ‘em Hell, all who attend.
I keep waiting for some enterprising Marine who lost his buddy in Iraq to go off and give that jerk Phelps what he deserves.
Nice. You think they’d learn.
Yeah, and it may as well have been a billion. They'll never pay out one thin dime.
PGR Ping.
Say WA? Evergreen State ping
FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
I will be there for this one!!
See you around 12:30.
How low can this church sink?
“The crowd should just go over and beat the hell out of them.”
I think that’s what they want you to do. Most of the adults in the “congregation” are lawyers.
To hell eventually.
Unfortunately, I can’t make this one, but I’d rather bring my .308 than a camera.
