The one left is TransCanada. The rest are declared non-reaponsive. Per Gov Sarah Barracuda today 4 Jan 08.
TransCanada is a good operation in my opinion. I’ve worked some Compressor Station projects for them years ago.
We’ll be watching. The proposal is supposed to be presented to the State Legislature 5 Feb.
Conoco said today they will present their proposal directly to the Legislature since the Gov rejected it. Conoco wants a guaranteed tax rate for 25 years. Tell you, Alaska doesn’t need Conoco; even the Shah of iran couldn’t guarantee five years. J D Rockefeller would be a little more politick than his oil company is these days. Maybe they should try Venezuela again.
Neither does ConocoPhillips need Alaska.
I'll bet ConocoPhillips represents a lot higher percentage of Alaska's total income than Alaska provides for ConocoPhillips' total income.
The Gov is no doubt somewhat annoyed with Conoco today. The Legislature is of course under indictment which is an enviroment Conoco might have some familiarity with. The situation is probably unavoidable.
Not only is Conoco way out of line, but the Legislature is nervous about public perception that some under the table deals might even be possible with so many indictments underway.
Today the Port Authority said they will take their proposal to the Legislature.
What’s next? The Chinese to ignore the Governor?
Why not? In my opinion, the governor is ignoring better options.
Got 2 million tons of steel sitting aorund?
