Former Rep. Henry Hyde, who died Wednesday at 83, was indeed an extraordinary man, a political giant who earned the respect of his colleagues across the political spectrum. Mr. Hyde, a Republican congressman from suburban Chicago, was many things during his 32 years in Congress: a political statesman and leader; chairman of the Judiciary and International Relations Committees; a skilled parliamentarian and debater; and a tireless fighter for conservative causes including protection for the innocent unborn and political freedom for the people of Central America.
In 1976 the freshman lawmaker won passage of the "Hyde Amendment" to appropriations bills, which barred most taxpayer funding of abortion and saved the lives of countless babies. In 2003, in the twilight of his congressional career, Mr. Hyde played a critical role in the successful fight to to ban the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion

He was a fine representitive of the dying conservative movement in American and western politics as the western nations move towards marxist socialism in lock step stupidity.
Henry Hyde was a key Republican on the Iran-Contra committee defending Oliver North and making a mockery of the Democrats trying to criminalize anti-communist foreign policy.
