Texas law says that you may carry a loaded long arm (shotgun or rifle) openly in public with a few exceptions (schools, courts, jails) without a license.

You do not have to have it cased.

You do not have to have it unloaded.

You may carry it in any safe manner - slung, ported, at the balance pointed down.

You may NOT carry it in a way designed to threaten or intimidate others - then it becomes brandishing a firearm.

Then that makes it clearer as to why these bodyguards could legally have guns in the open.

I don’t know gun laws but in Oregon from past observing a couple of hunters can walk by my home (in the area of where hunting happens) with their rifles and they can have them in the rear window rack of their rigs legally. No intent of harm to others just out looking for the year supply of venison.
