The unemployment rate in Cedar county declined by .1% in October, falling from 3.3% to 3.2%.

The Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) office said the number of residents without jobs fell from 360 to 350, while the size of the labor force grew from 10,890 to 10,960, an increase of 70.

The highest unemployment rate for the county this year was in January and February, at 3.9%, while the low was reached in May, when it fell to just 2.7%.

The Iowa unemployment rate held steady in October at 3.9%, unchanged from the previous month. One year ago it was 3.5%.

“While the state’s labor force advanced to another new record in October, non-farm employment decreased slightly following strong growth in September,” said Elisabeth Buck, director of IWD. “However, the Iowa labor market appears to be holding its own in spite of the current turmoil in the financial markets, and the slowdown in housing.”

Cedar county has the 3rd lowest unemployment rate for the area that includes Cedar and adjoining counties. Johnson county had an unemployment rate of 2.7% in October and Muscatine county was at 3%.

Listed below are the unemployment rates for Cedar and adjoining counties for September and October, including the number of unemployed in October.

Linn 3.9% 3.4% 4,000

Iowa Democrat supporters never got the truth about Democrat high tax rates increasing unemployment rates. Too many CNN softball, plant, debate questions fluffing about the 'change' of the Democrat Candidates, while, the unemployment lines are destine to get longer if more capitol is taxed out of the pockets of the 'rich'.

Two examples of the ignorant logic that gets Democrats and their high tax rates elected;

1.Just had a 26 yr old tell me yesterday, 'the rich can afford it', I have been trying to get the point across for months to him, HIGH TAX RATES = HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATES.

2. Another fella was saying his Grandson is just about to graduate from college, and is big into supporting Democrats. Told him to prepare the kid for welfare, the Democrats will tax his job opportunities out of the market.

It's time a Republican Candidate brings this up. Draw a picture diagram, the bigger the Democrat tax increases, the smaller the private sector funds, the bigger the unemployment group. It's time the Democrats are challenged, and not let to spout off about Republican spending to change the subject from tax rates.

concerning unemployment rates...

it once was considered 5% unemployment meant there was full employment, as there were always at least 5% who were unable or unwilling to work.

Is that not still the case???

I think you are right, though I don’t know exactly how it breaks down.
