Faces of Lawsuit Abuse
Institute for Legal Reform ^ | 12/20/2007 | Lisa Rickard

“There’s got to be a line drawn in the sand and we’ve got to start doing something about this, because it’s just gone way too far.”

Those are the words of Randy Baumgarten, a second-generation small business owner, speaking of the impact frivolous lawsuits have on small businesses like his own.

Randy is one of several people featured on the IAmLawsuitAbuse.org Web site which ILR launched this week. All of their stories bring home the sad reality that lawsuit abuse hurts families and small businesses.

Nice that a face is being put on this national disgrace, but the vast majority of the damage done by scum trial lawyers, their partners-in-crime judges, and the race/class-warfare driven juries, is essentially invisible.

Invisible, but with deep and lasting damage done to all of us, not just “greedy” corporations, faceless insurance companies, and “the rich”.

ALL of us.

Two words: Loser Pays.

If you're gonna bring a lawsuit, you'd better have something to lose from the attempt.

Using the system to hurt people like this should be a crime.

Your correct, we the consumer are the ones who pay the damages and only us. The court system needs an overhaul so judges don’t allow such B.S. in the courtrooms then we can stop the madness. When I look at the tag on a blow drier that says don’t use in the bathtub we paid for that tag and the damages that made it possible to put that there in the first place. People try to sue for anything they can and until the court system says enough is enough it will continue. When the courts start pushing honesty and responsibility for ones actions the lawyers will again do honest work and next month when you get your insurance bill it will not have gone up because somebody could not watch where they were walking and sued because of that.
