If my recollection is correct, the first time Clinton ran he came out of Iowa in third. Thompson just needs to show decently in Iowa. The winner in Iowa does not become the Party’s nominee all that often :-)

No. Our job is to winnow the field. We got rid of Brownback after the Straw Poll.

In fact, the winner in Iowa usually doesn't even get as far as the nomination for the party. A second-place, or even a strong third place, is all FDT needs to remain competitive (and he is the least of evils that I have seen running...)

Your recollection is correct. Clinton pulled 2-point- something percent. Granted, homeboy Harkin skewed the Iowa results, but still. 2 percent.
