Dr. Phil cancels Britney Spears show

Dr. Phil's planned sitdown Monday with Britney Spears' parents dissolved into accusations he was exploiting the troubled singer's emotional crackup.

The TV shrink insisted he canceled the taping with Jamie and Lynne Spears "because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family."

A source close to Dr. Phil McGraw said it was Britney's parents who cut him off, furious he blabbed about her mental state after visiting her in the psych ward at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

"As soon as Jamie realized Dr.Phil was making public statements about Britney, including assessments of her condition, he got angry," the source told Life & Style magazine. "He started making phone calls to everybody in the family, telling them not to cooperate."

The show was to air Tuesday.

Britney Spears was held in the hospital overnight after going berserk when ex-hubby Kevin Federline's bodyguards came to pick up her two baby boys. She was said to be stunned by Dr. Phil's visit and many of McGraw's psychiatric colleagues blasted him.

McGraw - now called Dr. Shill by some critics - went on CBS' sister show "Entertainment Tonight" to defend himself.

What possible defense for publicizing medical care about a very sick individual?

I can’t stand this attention-seeking phony. If he had any decency, he’d “help” these people in the privacy of their own home, not parade them on TV like a freak show.

Bummer, too bad Dr. Phil couldn’t get Britney, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole and Jack Bauer to move into his house.. now that would get ratings.

Might not have been a bad swap. He gets ratings and they get Britney some help. But there was no chance Britney or her family was going to follow his advice anyway.

I used to like Dr. Phil, but it seems he has run out of real material for his shows. The last show I saw was about about three teenage boys riding on a mattress tied by a rope to a back of a pick up truck.

He's slowing morphing into a Jerry Springer.

What's the deal with Dr. Phil? Why is he so "relevant"? Why is he so popular? I heard he makes something like $30 million a year... for doing what?

Dr. Phil and pop tarts — a logical match up while Ophra shills for Obama due to his “qualifications” - the only one in evidence being skin tone....and the sheeple lap it up.

A perfect summary of what American “society” has become...

The All-Britney All-The-Time coverage is wearing thin. The (lack of) entertainment channels need to find some other vacuous bimbo to blather on about (Paris needs the coverage) and leave Britney alone to deal with her private demons.

God willing, she may one day return to something approaching normalcy but, IMO, she is just the latest poster child for how Hollyweird eats child stars and spits them out. She peaked way too early and took too much time away to try to have a family. Her inability to make a successful return and reclaim her queen’s crown has made her more unstable than she was before she became a breakout Disney kid star.

I feel kind of sorry for her.
