A Quick Interview With The Duncan Hunter Campaign

    Over the weekend, after this last debate in South Carolina I was running through the republican candidates in my head and it just occurred to me.  Where has Duncan Hunter been?  I’ve watched three debates, and he wasn’t in any of them.

So I went to his campaign website and decided to find out.

    I asked the campaign 5 questions.  Duncan Hunter’s campaign managers were terrific and very fast to respond.  Here’s our conversation:

1. What is the reason Duncan Hunter wasn't in the debate last night (1/10/2008) in South Carolina?  What has been going on and why haven't we seen him in three debates now?  

    Unfortunately, the media elites misrepresented the few votes he received because he was listed on the ballot as having little support.  Significantly, the media did not exclude Senator Thompson, who polled approximately the same number of votes that Duncan received in NH.  Duncan is the only candidate who has been addressing the tough issues for securing our Nation's future such as border security and preserving our wartime industrial surge capability.  The solutions threaten powerful economic interests who own the media.

    Duncan's priority has been to define the critical substantive issues that will shape the future of our Nation and very likely, western civilization.  His campaign's priorities have been building his campaign's grass roots organization for the critical Florida primary on 29 Jan and the Super Tuesday primaries, which follow on 5 Feb.  We would also be less than frank not to admit that part of our strategy has been to wait for campaigns of the other candidates to implode.  Right after Rep. Tancredo's withdrawal, we immediately began to pick up his supporters.  Now we are welcoming defectors from the wounded media-fabricated titans as they begin to stumble.  Duncan Hunter has faith in the ultimate wisdom of the American people.  Those who were succumbing to the constant bombardment by media elites, especially by Fox, marketing the pseudo conservative candidates, have grave doubts about their electability.  The voters know that the GOP race is still wide open.

2. I think Duncan Hunter is a great American and I think if he can just get that connection with the GOP voters, the primaries might be a big shock to the drive by media.  I have heard him on more than a few occasions on The Glenn Beck Program, and I know that I would like to learn more and get to know him better as a candidate, is there a current strategy your team has and plans to implement to get him back into this race and help him connect with the Republican voters? 

    Your having heard him on Glenn Beck is an indicator of the Hunter Campaign's successful media strategy.  Over the past 3 months, Duncan has developed a nationwide friendly network of media personalities.  A major focus has been talk radio in major primary states, especially conservative local and regional radio hosts who frequently have Duncan on as a phone in guest.  These personalities also frequently mention Duncan's stands on major issues and take calls from his grass roots supporters.  Every opportunity is also being taken to schedule him for the more limited television opportunities like the Glenn Beck interview you saw.  We are also using information technology extremely effectively.  Just ask our Florida Grass Roots Field Staff who are adding dozens of volunteers responding to this media effort every day.

3. What is the biggest challenge Duncan Hunter is up against right now as far as making that "Mass connection" with the GOP voters? 

    We would be less than candid to say that the heavily financed candidates do not have an advantage.  However, this advantage is not insurmountable.  The most recent example is Governor Romney who spent over $8 million in the IA and NH primaries.  In IA, he lost to a Gov Huckabee who was very modestly resourced.  The real story in NH was that Gov Romney failed to carry a major suburb of Boston, the first of 6 Massachusetts Presidential candidates to fail to do so in this century.  Congressman Hunter's sound management and prioritizing campaign resources are major indicators of the responsible fiscal policies the Duncan Hunter Administration will follow.  The Florida primary will exemplify how great things can be accomplished without vulgarly excessive spending.

4. If there were 3 reasons (or more) that America should vote for Duncan Hunter over any of the other GOP candidates, what would they be?

    For over a quarter of a century, Duncan Hunter has walked the walk of a Reagan Republican.  He has championed a world-class military, border security, and protecting America's workers and small businesses against unfair trade competition by opposing schemes like NAFTA, CAFTA and the North American Union.

    Duncan served in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers.  His Son Duncan D. Hunter just completed a third combat tour as a U.S. Marine Corps Captain.  Duncan can relate first hand to veterans and parents who have sent their children to war.  He demands that our government keep its promises to America's Veterans.  Having been an enlisted man he knows what it is like to be on the receiving end.

    He understands that jobs in U.S. defense, aircraft, ship repair, machine tools, textile, steel and titanium industries, which are essential for maintaining the wartime surge capacity of the U.S. industrial base, must be protected.  Duncan is the only candidate who has articulated that the foundation of our National Security Strategy must be a robust economy.  An economy with a large, sustainable and growing middle class which cannot be done by continued outsourcing and one-way trade deals with places like China

    Since the 9-11 World Trade Center Attacks, Hunter has led the fight to make securing our borders while we fight a transnational terrorist enemy a top national security priority. 

    His efforts to provide tax relief for working families, protect Social Security for future generations, and promote strong family values have earned him 100% ratings from Eagle Forum.  He also enjoys excellent ratings from The American Conservative Union, the Concerned Women of America, the Christian Coalition, and the Campaign for Working Families.  In addition, he has a 92% from the American Conservative Union and an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association. 

5. Is there anything else you would like me to add to add to this blog? 

    For 15 years, major strategic mistakes have been made by Administrations of both political parties because they lacked substantial military and foreign policy experience.  This is not gained by a governor calling out the National Guard for state duty, or by a mayor responding to a highly localized terrorist attack, no matter how admirably.  Rather, it comes from mastering the economic, diplomatic, military and intergovernmental elements of our national power to shape sound security strategy and policy.  Congressman Hunter cannot only tactically, operationally and strategically employ our forces, but also balance those other elements of power with equally superior competency to restore America's greatness.

Do you remember one of the first debates many months ago when Duncan Hunter referred to some of his fellow candidates as , “THE KENNEDY WING OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY”?

THAT is why Hunter is out of the media coverage and the debates. He told the truth. CAN’T have that! Not to mention stopping any discussion of China and immigration.

McCain, Huckabee, Rudy....look who they’re giving us...LOOK who the media and globalist pundits are pushing!

I think we should start calling it exactly what it is, don’t you? Hunter, as usual, called it first and called it right.

Yes, yes we do know and some of us appreciate the faith Congressman Hunter has in our wisdom. I for one, will not let him down!

I want Hunter to be in the debates. I like Hunter but polling statement above is untrue. Also, Thompson got third place with 13% in Iowa. He deserves to be in the debates as well as Hunter.

There is no doubt the MSM, and in this case FOX to a certain degree, is framing the debate for the Presidency by their coverage and determination as to who will/will not be given a soap box.
I think Hunter is the candidate conservative America is looking for and should be given the same opportunity to present his views as, say, Huckabee or McLame.
The alphabet media - ABC, CBS, etc.- has already revealed their biased reporting and outright promotion of Obama and Hillary that they cannot deny trying to rig the Presidential nomination process.
