ARTICLE SYNOPSIS:
The Navy Times reports that the battle group led by the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk prepared for battle during a 28-hour standoff with two vessels from the Chinese Navy.

Song-class vessels, like all modern diesel-electric subs, are very quiet, giving them a distinct advantage in littoral, coastal defense warfare. Absolutely true. There's no denying it. On the other hand, a Carrier battlegroup is not going to depend on passive sonar. Having a quiet sub doesn't help much when they turn on the active sonar.
