Song-class vessels, like all modern diesel-electric subs, are very quiet, giving them a distinct advantage in littoral, coastal defense warfare.

Absolutely true. There's no denying it. On the other hand, a Carrier battlegroup is not going to depend on passive sonar. Having a quiet sub doesn't help much when they turn on the active sonar.

There will be those that say such a scenario just didn’t happen, but they forget that plane just after Bush took office. Trusting the Chinese...big mistake.

John Birch Society?? Is there a better source for this story? Maybe we should link the story to the Navy Times.

No offense, but the birchers’ have not always been a 100 percent accurate.

Of course they were more alert with the Chinese navy around, but this is not the Cuban Missile Crisis redux, no matter how much the JBS drama queens wish it were.
