Old Warrior, Go Home

Their McCain pile-on would not be so egregious if only the White House -- and the perks of politics -- were at stake. With 165,000 troops serving in Iraq and 26,000 serving in Afghanistan, Republican voters must guard more than their party purity. They have to vote -- and at times hold their tongues -- with an eye on what is most important: Iraq.

As public support for the war has eroded, it has been disheartening to watch Democrats, who once supported the war, drop the ball on Iraq. Now, to watch Republicans bloody McCain, when they should be concentrating on keeping an anti-war Democrat from becoming commander in chief -- well, it makes me wonder how much they want to win.

Excellent article. At the very least, McCain is no “phony soldier” or Swiftboat bait, and he’s been a strong proponent of victory in Iraq.

There is certainly relevant criticism of McCain that we can and should discuss as a community of conservatives, but the mindless bashing of John McCain ought to be left to the fringes among us.

If Loathsome John doesn’t like getting raked over the coals by conservatives, he should have thought about that before he made stabbing them in the back his life’s work.

Go to hell, McQueeg.

Why y a man who could be your party's nominee, unless you see ideological purity as more important than winning in 2008? If McCain's the nominee then Hillary wins. That's why.

You DO NOT spend the better part of a decade urinating upon the conserative base and then demand their vote. We WILL sit home in droves. I KNOW, I’ve seen us do it!

Remember ‘06!

I will not bash John McCain. I respect for many reasons. I like Debra Saunders, too.

I just don’t prefer him for President. I don’t think he will beat Hillary or Obama. Too much animosity with the base that cannot be repaired with an editorial.

I haven’t seen any ‘mindless bashing’ of McCain, and I’m watching pretty close.

The fact is McCain isn’t trusted by his own party, for good reasons. As such, he won’t be the nominee.

Thats the price one pays for bashing Conservatives on MSNBC for Chris Mathews personal amusement. They don’t forget, and they damn sure won’t support you afterwards.

Shes writes as if McCain is the only Republican who understands the war on terror. Baloney. Thompson and Hunter are as good or better on the issue, without the liberal baggage and the emotional instability, to put it nicely.

Do we really want McCain to have control of our nukes? Having worked closely with a guy who was also a guest of the Hanoi Hilton for an extended period of time, I would have to say, “Heck, no!”

If the San Francisco Urinal is weighing in in support of McCain, that’s all the more reason to expose him for the RINO that he is.

“Lindsay, I need a backrub.”

I got my issues with McCain, but he is not a phony soldier and he is strong on national security.

I have a few theories about this as the VVAMcCain have been around for awhile now.

1) They are total morons thinking this would work against McCain only a few days away from a primary in a pro-military state.

2) McCain’s camp used the VVAMcCain material in order to get the sympathy/outrage vote. (And no, I wouldn’t put it past them).

3) Huckabee is behind it in order to make sure the mil vote goes to McCain instead of Thompson.

McCain is a hero and a patriot and in that regard he’s an honorable man. But in every other regard he’s a self serving, back stabbing, untrustworty, greedy self promoter. From Keating 5 to the Gang of 14 to McCain Kennedy Amnesty to his enviro whacko leanings to his fawning love affair with liberals and the MSM he’s proven again and again that he can’t be trusted by conservatives. I would no more trust him with the power to make nominations to the Supreme Court than I would Leahy and Kennedy.

But effectively gutted the first amendment. Where do you get your confidence he’ll appoint conservative judges? My guess is he’d pick someone his buddy Teddy liked.
