Gangs armed with machetes and bows and arrows burned and hacked to death members of a rival tribe in western Kenya Sunday, as the number of dead from the latest explosion of violence over disputed presidential elections rose to 69.
Houses were blazing in the tourist gateway town of Naivasha, torched by members of President Mwai Kibaki's tribe exacting revenge on their Luo rivals...
The latest deaths raise the toll to nearly 800 killed in ethnic violence and clashes with police since Kibaki was declared winner of Dec. 27 balloting that international and local observers say had a rigged tally. Some 255,000 people have been forced from their homes.
Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga, who claims he won the election, remain far apart on how to resolve the crisis, the worst the country has suffered since its 1963 independence from Britain.
On Sunday, Odinga was meeting with former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the latest international mediator attempting to bring the two sides together.

These people are nothing but animals.
Honestly, the news coverage was shocking. Some poor man weas chased, before falling only to be beaten to death by a mob.
What the hell is wrong with these people? Savage and inhuman monsters.
It’s very sad for Africa, because Kenya is often seen as a ‘positive’ example for the continent.
Its all part of a plan to destabilize Kenya and turn it into a Somalia if Odinga didnt win.
Why do you thing Odinga turned down Libakis offer to share power, the old tribal remedy in such situations. If I were Kibaki, I would send the army after the Luo now, and also round up every petty tribe thats been out on the kill.
Things are about to get real serious in Kenya. The government of Kenya has had enough of this. The solution will not be pretty, nor will it be humane.
Kibaki knows he only has a certain amount of time, before the Muzzies show up with arms for the Luo.
Obama put out for Odinga. Its hard for me to imagine that he did not know about this aspect of the "revolution."
I wonder what ex US MArine Abdi/Wali is up too right now? Do you suppose he's gun running and getting ready, or did he high tail it out of Kenya? I'd love to find out.
I hope someone is listening to the telephone calls he's bound to be making to his sponsors, Obama and Ellison.
Obama likely is on the phone to his Muslim uncle now.
