Mitt Romney: Champion of Big Government
The Center for Small Government ^ | Carla Howell

Posted on 01/27/2008 4:48:03 PM PST by Tigen

Carla Howell is President of the Center For Small Government and heads the 2008 Massachusetts ballot initiative to END the Income Tax.

Is Mitt Romney the "economic conservative" he claims to be? Especially when it comes to tax and spend policies?

Now that he's running for president, let's compare his words with his deeds.

Taxes

Romney claims to be anti-tax. He even "took" a "no new taxes" pledge when he ran for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002. "Took" is in quotes because he refused to sign that pledge. His signature wasn't necessary, he claimed. He assured us that he's a man of his word.

But Mitt Romney has been a champion of new taxes. Government Spending

Mitt Romney claims to have cut the Massachusetts budget by "$2 billion." Sometimes he claims he cut it "$3 billion." The media gives him free advertising by parroting this myth repeatedly. They repeat it so often that even some libertarians assume it must be true.

But these "cuts" were merely budget games. Spending cuts in one area were simply moved into another area of the budget.

The Romney-Kennedy Alliance

But his grande finale was the worst of all: RomneyCare, Mitt Romney's version of socialized medicine.

By his own admission, he didn't plan his socialized medicine scheme until after the 2002 election.

During Romney's governor campaign, he convinced voters that his Democrat rival would be worse – because she would saddle us with socialist tax and spend policies, he said.

But soon after he was elected, Romney started the drumbeat for socialized medicine. Three years later, he signed RomneyCare into law.

Hello to the new boss...same as the old boss.

How are we to escape from this? By the time we figure out how will there be enough of the America most of us grew up in to bother? Financial slave to China, intimidated by Islamic lunatics and punked by Mexico...this is NOT what the United States should be!

Romney is still the best man for the job when you consider who is left.

I don't trust any of the remaining Republican candidates to cut taxes, keep the country free of socialized health care, and continue to fight terror. The sole exception being Ron Paul, and he is an isolationist. What's left strikes me as a bunch of RINO's.

I call it the Benedict Ahnuld Shwartzen-liar-afication of the Republican party.

Hucksters are busy people. Hucks problem isn’t Romney.
It is Huckabee.

Your man Huck has tanked. Notice how he hasn’t gotten ANY ink - negative OR positive - over the last week.

The MSM done loved him and leaved him.

Carla A. Howell (born 1955) is an American Libertarian politician.

She was the Massachusetts Libertarian Party candidate in the race for U.S. Senate in 2000

She ran for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002. In the race won by Mitt Romney, Howell finished 4th with 23,044 votes for 1.05% of the total vote.

Carla Howell is a great-granddaughter of the Honorable William Eustis Russell, a Democrat elected Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a granddaughter of 1950s Boston socialite Margaret Russell Howell.

I agree he is a moderate conservative. The other three are liberal conservative ... possibly just plain liberals. If we are going to vote conservative, there is only one in this field. Otherwise go ahead and vote for Hillary ... and never complain again!

I was just thinkin’ to myself earlier that maybe the GOP deserves to burn down. Maybe, just maybe, by 2012 we’ll find someone that will remember what the constitution is all about.

Not holding my breath, though!

I gave a serious look at Carla Howell when she ran here for Governor several years ago.

The lady is flat out crazy.

On the other hand, the health care plan mandated by the State, and approved by Mitt Romney is also crazy.

I wish that he never signed that Bill, but he did.

Lucky for him that the other viable candidates are simply more awful in many more ways.

Romney could never, ever be the big government advocate Clinton and Obama are, even if he worked at it 24/7.
