“I’m betting that Thomas Spencer Monson gets chosen to be the next LDS church president once the LDS Apostles meet to decide upon this announcement after Hinckley’s funeral.”

In case someone hasn’t pointed it out yet (I haven’t read the whole thread yet), the senior Apostle is next in line. Always. There is no choosing. Monson is it.

Historically, the longest-serving apostle has always been chosen to succeed the deceased prophet. But it doesn’t necessarily HAVE to be that way. It depends what the Quorum decides, under inspiration.

Realistically, yes, it’s 99.9999% likely that Monson will be the next President.
