Hillary Election Shennanigans in New York?
vanity | 02/05/08 | Cincinnatus

Add another one to the bizarro world of New York politics. It appears that the names of all four of the dropouts in the Democrat primary still appear on the ballot. Now, just which one of the two remaining candidates would benefit by a split of the vote?

The Board of Elections has an excuse:

"because the candidates dropped out of the race too late for their names to be removed from the ballot."

Fair enough.

But wait, Dodd and Biden dropped out before Fred Thompson. Kucinich dropped out before Giuliani, and Edwards dropped out the same day as Giuliani.

So how come it's too late to take the Democrat drop-outs off, but not the Republicans?

Last time I looked, we had only one Board of Elections in New York State.

Your report doesn’t say it, but I assume you are saying that the Republican ballot only has the 4 remaining candidates, and that Fred and Giuliani are no longer there?

Are democrat voters so stupid that they can’t distinguish their candidate from a list of a half dozen names?

Obama may be as corrupt...

...but Hillary’s machine has the operatives in place nationally.

As I reported on the Super Tues. Thread, once in the lever-style voting booth, you see Green columns for each Dem candidate, including the Breck Girl. Looking way to the far right, you see one--count it ONE--Pink column for ALL the Repub candidates: Rudy, Duncan, Fred, Alan K., Mitt, Mike & John, and Ron. That's 8 candidates in one column!

It is a bit confusing to line up your candidate with the right lever--I cannot imagine an elderly person not finding it difficult--so I counted down in both the name and lever columns to make sure I was voting for Mitt.

So why do the Dems get favored in the voting booths???

So I made a call to the NY State Board of Elections where I was told that the Dems have individual columns because they have delegates. Whatever. However, the man nicely told me that NYC was supposed to take names off the Repub list and they refused to do so. Apparently, I was not the first caller.

And so I then called the NYC BOE and was told that the Board voted and decided to keep all 8 names on the Repub list to make it fair. Fair for what?

Have you ever had an intelligent conversation with a lifelong democrat?

In my Upstate NY county, only the four remaining Repubs are on, while ALL the Democrats appear. Now I’m hearing it’s different in New York City. How can you have a state-wide primary with different candidates in different counties?

What’s scarier than the incompetent and/or corrupt Board of Elections staff, is that there are a significant number of voters who are sufficiently clueless about anything and everything that they’ll go ahead and vote for these ex-candidates in blissful ignorance of their ex status.

I should add that the New York rules have the Board of Elections decide who is a nationally-recognized candidate, and in the Republican primary, those candidates choose their slate of delegates. So now we have dropped out candidates’ delegates still in contention?

Yes, the dropouts are on the board in NYC, but only HerThighness and Obama have delegates under their names.

At least during a primary, the Democrats can’t blame their own obvious ineptitude on Republicans.

In November, it will be another story altogether.

I’m enjoying the pre-Diebold madness while it lasts.

Good question! The man in the Albany BOE office told me that NYC was instructed to remove names from the ballot, but they refused. NYC told me that they voted (10 Board members—5 Repub/5 Dem) and they decided to keep all 8 names.

As an operative here in NH, I have to respect Obama and his people because they were the only campaign besides Ron Paul to execute a Get Out The Vote strategy. Both of our GOTV efforts (mine being Ron Paul) were hurt by Hillary coming to polling places with her legal team and challenging our poll workers. This significantly undermined our GOTV effort and no doubt led to her win over Obama in NH.

Bottom line is, she was up to some dirty tricks. Some of our poll workers were outside smoking a cigarette when the Hillary vans pulled up. The drivers were joking with each other about how many felons and out of staters they had in their vans. It was truly disgusting.

What happens to delegates for candidates who have dropped out? Do they keep them?

Anybody know?

Delegates once chosen remain delegates. If they are pledged to a candidate, under all circumstances I can think of, they become uncommitted and can vote however they wish at the convention.
