They have clout, both economically and politically, because they have money.
They don’t spend their dough raising families and sending kids to college. That leaves lots to spend on furthering their social agenda.

There’s also something to be said about the money saved by avoiding the dating routine straight men go through and running for the Rest Room after making eye contact in a bar.
Let's consider this. Folks don't want homosexuals to have children or families of their own so that would mean many homosexuals have extra disposable income. Other folks complain they have money to do with as they please including as an expression of their free political speech. Oh no! We need a McCain-Feingold against the gays.
All that bitterness about folks with money smells like liberal "afluenza" to me.
I suppose the gays could be confined to a work or reeducation camp somewhere instead. (/sarcasm)
I'd like to note, some do "spend their dough raising families" because they've entered into heterosexual marriages or, in particular lesbians, have used science to conceive and bare their child. Some homosexuals have adopted, where that's legal.
