My guess would be that this is just a taste of what is to come when he officially becomes the “nominee.”

Story could undercut McCain

Nah, just makes it easier for a Democrat to vote for him.

“Analysis” = Let’s try to keep this going and give it more impact than the Times story had.

Campaigning in Texas, Democrat Barack Obama declined to comment on the story.

" The New Republic, a conservative publication..."

I would hate to live next door to anyone that considers that far-left fish-wrap 'conservative.' ;o)

Interesting that democrats are so identified with every sleazy angle, no revelation of their wrongdoing can have much significance.

obama’s shady real estate deals are not an issue, but this is.

figures. Also, the words ‘Keating 5’ were brought up today for the first time in over a decade on CNN.

"I'm very disappointed in the article," he told reporters.

Lame choice of words. Very disappointed? What was he expecting from the NYT?

Never mind that there is no evidence that McCain did anything wrong here - none. Now think about all the crap we know for a fact the Bill Clinton did - I do not recall the AP or anyone else in the news media being so terribly worried about his political viability at those moments. Translation: if a Democrat does it, he's "human". If a Republican is even accused of doing it (by the media), he's "guilty".

I can’t figure this one out.

McCain is the presumptive nominee but not there yet. If the intent of the Old Gray Whore is to take him out? Why print the article now?

Why not a few weeks ago before the primaries that garnered the delegates?

Why not in August or September when people are really paying attention.

Something is not right about all this.

After 8 yrs of a HornDog Rapist Democrat President you would think the NYTimes would promote The Maverick as irresistible to woman.

Oh, wait. That was only for a Democrat President. sorry.

"Conservative pundits who are some of McCain's harshest critics could have jumped on the issue to question the strength of McCain's family values. Instead, they went after the Times."

Liberal media actually espouses that republicans are fair game on scandals, because supposedly republicans promote "family values" whereas democrats are open scumbags.

Of course this is pure BS, I believe Bill Clinton ran on family values, and Hilary,Obama, Edwards have all bellied up to the pulpit and extensively lied about how much they pray, etc.

Four main issues will be raised about McCain. The issues will be marital fidelity, health, age, and his controversial voting record.

This particular story is likely intended to remind voters that McCain had an affair during his first marriage, and possibly raise a suspicion he may have repeated his earlier behavior.

McCain’s voting record has already received much scrutiny within the Republican Party.

McCain's age and health will be the next major news stories regarding his personal life. Separately, they wouldn't carry much weight with voters. Combined, they could be devastating.
