HOUSTON - Democrat Barack Obama accused his rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday of trying to "scare up votes" with a television ad showing sleeping children and asking who would be more qualified to answer a national security emergency call at 3 a.m.
"We've seen these ads before," the Illinois senator said while campaigning in Texas. "They're the kind that play on peoples' fears to scare up votes. Well, it won't work this time. Because the question is not about picking up the phone. The question is: What kind of judgment will you make when you answer?"
To the sound of a ringing phone, the Clinton ad shows children sleeping at night and a mother checking on a child as an announcer says a phone is ringing in the White House and something has happened in the world. It ends with an image of Clinton on the telephone as the announcer asks, "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safely asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?"

The Clinton ad shows Bill at his desk, Monica underneath checking on something. The phone rings and Maggie Williams says is some general somewhere wanting to know if they can go ahead and drop a bomb on Bin Laden because they finally have a clear shot. “It’s 3 a.m. and your wife is safely asleep. Do you answer the phone?” That’s experience you can trust.
If the U.S. were under direct nuclear attack, Hillary would commission an opinion poll to determine the public’s reaction.
What a lamebrain! The point of Clinton's ad isn't that she wakes up better, or answers the phone better. Her point is that her judgement is better.
One can disagree with her assessment of her ability, but Obama doesn't even grasp the point of the ad.
If Hillary answers the phone at 3 am it is merely the PI she hired to follow Bill calling in to give her an update on his escapades.
Obama is upset because Hillary’s ad plays off of Obama’s little riff with McCain about Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Of course liberal Democrats want Obama answering the phone. Its obvious the Clintons are either losing very badly in internal polls or they just have no idea who their voters are.
