"As your President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws," he wrote. "I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples -- whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage."
He once again said he backs the "complete repeal" of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a law passed in 1996 that gives states the option of not recognizing another state's "gay marriages." It also prohibits the federal government from recognizing "gay marriage." Ever since it was passed homosexual activists have viewed it as a significant legal barrier to nationwide legalization of "gay marriage."
"While some say we should repeal only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether," he wrote. "Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does."

Sorry for the mix-up. I haven’t posted in a while! I just heard Obama say on the radio that he “didn’t” support “gay marriage.” I thought, “What a hypocrite!” I’d just read this article yesterday. . .

Sorry to rain on the parade (gay pride?) but this makes me somewhat less concerend about Obama than more.
The only bully pulpit he needs to be in preaching in front of is his own mirror at home. He and that wife of his. I can’t believe she is shanking the very people who helped put her where she is in pretend favor of people who really don’t have anything to say about anything. All, I can say to the people who would vote for this smuck’s husband is “Look before you leap; it’s a long way down”.

I always thought it was 2-3%. Regardless, the most important question within that context however is what percentage of voters are they? And perhaps even more important what percentage of donors are they? In eletoral math absolute numbers are irrelevant.

I lurk at the DU once in a while, and a few weeks ago ran across a thread where people were talkin about this..the concensus was that even if sharia law, in some aspects took over, gays, adulterers etc would be protected because we have the constitution...
all I could do was shake my head..
