Survey: U.S. consumers favor Chinese products
WASHINGTON, March 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. consumers believe Chinese products have the second best value in the world, only after the American goods, a recently released survey shows.
The survey, conducted by New York-based GfK Roper, a market research firm serving consumer goods companies, found that 26 percent of U.S. consumers believe Chinese-made products have the best value, up from 9 percent in a comparable survey in 1996.
Some 45 percent of consumers said they believe American products to be the best value, while Japan, Mexico, Germany ranked behind the U.S. and China on consumers' perceptions.
About 10 percent of consumers said they think Chinese products offer the highest quality, and 18 percent of those surveyed put Chinese products to be the most creative, said the survey.
Chinese products ranked behind U.S. and Japanese goods on the perceptions of creativity, but they outranked Canadian, French and Scandinavian products on the question of quality, according to the survey.
In terms of the prestige, U.S. consumers have a much higher opinion of Chinese products than they do to the products from Canada, South Korea and all other developing countries.
The survey of 2,000 American consumers was conducted in the autumn of 2007 when a series of Chinese products were recalled, said Kathy Sheehan, senior vice president of GFK Roper, noting U.S. consumers might speak much highly of Chinese products without the recalls.
"If the current trend continues, I believe that Chinese products will enjoy higher prestige," said Sheehan.
Ping!
See, Canada is still developing.
Right now, I consider Chinese made Fenix flashlights the best around.

ATTENTION WAL-MART SHOPPERS: I WANT WHAT YOU’RE SMOKING!
Is this the Chinese version of the Onion? I’d avoid the Chinese products if I could, but every single thing is made in China.
China makes the best Chinese. I’ll give them that. For everything else...um... I’d have to read the survey questions.
After the poisonings and accidental deaths are factored out, this my be true.
this American does NOT favor Chinese goods....I always look for American goods where I can..which is not often enough...but I would rather buy from Mexico or Japan or Viet Nam than China....I've passed up a lot of things that I liked because of their China tag...
When it comes to molded and assembled doodads, they’re correct. Many of better quality than those that came before. Many of poorer quality but it’s not for lack of trying. Beware, these guys copy really really well. But then you already knew this.
This is a question about whether the price is good for the product, it has nothing to do with what people think about the quality of the product (only 10% said so about Chinese products). Chinese products are in general cheap and affordable. In most cases, they work well (at least for a while).
26 percent of U.S. consumers believe only the U.S. and Red China make products.
yitbos
This is not what other countries before China would have been able to do.
These problems are not just technical, but institutional and political problems. It won't be addressed quickly.
Many of them are. Not all. Besides, even the junk stuff work for a while. For many people, that’s enough. In the long run perhaps they have to pay more (because they have to buy similar stuff again), but it doesn’t always go to their calculation.
Most Chinese products I have purchased are missing pieces and fail within days of my first use. Toys are the worst. Nothing lasts anymore. We are conditioned to throw out appliances because they are so cheap it isn’t worth getting them repaired.
I don;t understand why the environmentalist are not sitting in Long Beach Harbor blocking containers from China. If they wanted to make a real impact that is the first place to start!
It’s Because all Chinese Products have addictive MSG.... haha
Avoid the Mushrooms.. they are tasteless..
