Sorry, I’m with her.

Why the hell do you have to swear to take up arms, if required to, just to teach math?

She should be commended for taking the oath seriously enough to respect the commitment to it, Not like those who blithely put their hand on the Bible and swear to uphold the Constitution and defend the country but then trample on it (John McCain), or let illegals aliens flood across our borders (Bush) or just subvert the legal system (clinton).

The oath did not require her to take up arms.

She is using this issue for political grandstanding.

If she is a true, religious pacifist, that is one thing. And as a practical matter, would you want such a pacifist bearing arms anyway? As you noted, she gave an honest answer. How many faux pacifists are out there who praise “nonviolence” one minute and then the next minute they are praising terrorists or violent, war-like dictatorships? People like that are not really pacifists, they are on the side of the enemy. This teacher seems like a pacifist of the true sort and should not be treated almost like a criminal.
