Does Congress want to take an Easter break? The American People have used many different tactics to try to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have camped outside the Bush Ranch in an attempt to get a conference with the president. He refused to meet with them.The people have petitioned Congress and even changed its balance of power. Still, Congress votes to continue funding the wars, and on the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War which has killed almost 4,000 Americans and over a million Iraqis, Congress plans to be on vacation.
Except that a large group of Americans have different plans. Believing that "the time has passed to petition or beg or ask Congress to act under the will of the people" , and "that Congress works for US, and the time has come to TELL them what to do", they "will engage in non-violent direct action that will deliver our official orders to Congress and confront them peacefully if they refuse to comply."
The quotes above are from the mission statement of the Stop-Loss Congress, an action put together by a coalition which includes After Downing Street, Camp Casey's Ann Wright, Cindy Sheehan's Camp Casey Peace Institute and Gold Star Families for Peace, CODEPINK WOMEN FOR PEACE (including our own Dez), Consumers for Peace, the Crawford Texas Peace House, Peace Action chapters, the Green Party Peace Network, The HIP HOP CAUCUS, Iraq Veterans Against the War chapters, the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, Veterans for Peace, The World Can't Wait and 34 more organizations.
This coalition, seeing how Congress has endorsed the idea of stop loss orders, which forcefully extend the stays of the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, will be in Washington DC on March 10 and 11 to deliver stop loss orders to Congress. These orders instruct Congress that "all leaves, vacations, passes and family visits are hereby CANCELED", and order them to 'REMAIN AT YOUR POSTS UNTIL ALL TROOPS AND "PRIVATE CONTRACTORS" ARE REMOVED FROM IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN AND ALL THE WARS ARE ENDED'. On March 12, they will engage in non violent direct action to prevent Congress from leaving town.

Realizing that Congress is used to following orders from Crawford, a group from Texas and the surrounding area will converge on Crawford on March 7, where they will board vans to begin the journey to Washington DC.
This group, another collaboration between Camp Casey and the Crawford Texas Peace House, who have done so much together, will help distribute the orders, hopefully to their own representatives, and engage in the direct action. Those who wish to, may risk arrest, but NOBODY WILL BE FORCED TO RISK ARREST.

They want “Private Contractors” to be taken out of Iraq? What don’t they understand about the word “Private”?
That's what happens when you try and present them with logic and facts. It doesn't compute.
You can't defeat an irrational and emotional argument with logic and reasoning.
