Tucker Carlson Out at MSNBC

NEW YORK (AP) — The bow tie is out at MNSBC. David Gregory is replacing Tucker Carlson as host of a one-hour show each evening.

The news network is making a handful of changes to respond to heavy political interest. Gregory's new show is called "Race for the White House" and will be on each weekday at 6 p.m. starting next Monday.

Carlson has been at MSNBC for nearly three years.

MSNBC also says that Andrea Mitchell will anchor an hour each afternoon. Keith Olbermann's popular "Countdown" program will rerun every night at 10.

No, on MSNBC, that'd be in spite of his defense of Spitzer today.

“No, on MSNBC, that’d be in spite of his defense of Spitzer today.”

Good catch! It’s been a long day, I should have figured that out....

Speaking dear old Elliot.... was that an entertainment expense?

Does New York State have a FOIA law regarding expense claims?

We wouldn’t know, all the State Police’s forces are busy watching Joe Bruno thanks to Spitzer.

I watched that show and I didn’t see defense. He doesn’t like the guy at all. He thought he should have been in trouble and thrown out long ago for other things.

David Gregory, another unbiased journalist taking his place huh? Yikes!

I saw his encounter with the “monster” reporter. I agree with Carlson. If, during an interview, a person says something and then asks that whatever it was be off the record, that request should be honored. Once the interview is over, then I can see the reporter refusing to take something out. Anyone else have an opinion on this point?

... a portion of Carlson’s comments from above referenced link:

“Carlson, in full sneer: Okay, I’m sorry I didn’t get that news flash. I missed that. So he’s a hypocrite unlike the rest of us. I mean — Of course, of course he’s a hypocrite! But the point is, that’s not the problem with Eliot Spitzer. The problem with Eliot Spitzer is the way he hauled his political enemies into court abusing the power of the state, again, so he could become elected governor. I just think it’s a shame – and here I am defending someone I detest and disapprove of – but I think it’s a shame when we go into these spasms of self-righteousness, when we all beat our chests, and say, look at the bad guy, we’re nothing like him, when in fact a lot of us are like him, frankly.

Brewer, with a dramatic pause: Really?

Carlson, suddenly protesting that might cut too close to home: I’m not! I’m just saying I don’t like, there’s something, that I believe is unattractive about public displays of self-righteousness of this kind. And you’re going to see it over the next 24 hours, analysts going on TV and saying, “That’s repulsive!” You know, where were they when Spitzer was crushing his enemies using public tax dollars and the threat of prison. They didn’t say anything about it. They cheered him on like some kind of Robin Hood, when in fact he’s the opposite, and now just because he goes to a hooker, they’re beating up on him.”

I notice that John Gibson’s show is canceled, or “in haitus,” being replaced with some lame show on the 2008 elections.

I wonder if that’s the industry standard for firing a host now, just replace their show with one dedicated to more topical events, without actually announcing that they’re being fired.

I’ll miss John’s “My Word” segments. I like Martha McCullum (one half of the new show) but Bill Hemmer has always struck me as being a totaly lightweight.

Apparently not far left enough, so the DNC has asked for a change in its network lineup. And, as a good ally, they are.

Add in Melanie Morgan’s being fired from her San Francisco radio show, and it looks like conservative talk show hosts are dwindling everywhere...
