The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars -- and possibly as much as $1 million -- of the organization's funds into his personal accounts, GOP officials said yesterday, describing an alleged scheme that could become one of the largest political frauds in recent history.

How fitting.

The lack of ethics extends throughout every aspect of big time politics in both parties. They steal from us, they steal from the country, they steal from each other.

Kinda makes me glad I quit donating awhile back. When we donate now, it’s to individuals we support (usually local).

The Democratic and Republican Parties have become merely opposite wings of the same bird, and it’s the American people who are getting the bird as our elected officials serve their corporate masters and the special interest groups that dominate both parties.

“For at least four years, Christopher J. Ward, who is under investigation by the FBI, allegedly used wire transfers to funnel money out of NRCC coffers”

How was someone able to keep doing this “for at least four years” in a very high profile position? How was it no one noticed the money missing? Doesn’t the NRCC do regular audits? Are we supposed to trust these Republicans to maintain oversight on a multi-trillion dollar federal budget?

"They steal from us, they steal from the country, they steal from each other."

Bears repeating. Like principals and adherence to political philosophies and campaign rhetoric, there is little difference between the either Party.

This is not gonna be a good year.

The fraud investigation adds to the NRCC’s list of woes. The Republican committee is carrying a large debt from the 2006 election cycle...

Its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which helps elect Democrats to the House, reported $35.5 million cash on hand at the end of January with debts of $1.7 million.

...In fact, the NRCC had only $5.67 million in the bank at the end of January, while its debt was $2.5 million, officials said.

Had a call, just less than an hour ago, from the Republican National Committee.

After exchanging pleasantries, I advised her that they were no longer Republicans, but RINO's, and that I wasn't a Republican, but a Conservative.

With that, the tender young thing said ... "have a nice day", and hung up. She showed no animosity, and it seemed she had heard similar in the recent past.

Message delivered!

Every one of these punks are driving this country right into a brick wall. My 5th grader could keep better books than these overbearing inept crooks.

I’ve delivered a similar response to their desperate calls. From what I hear, donations are trending down year after year, and yet they don’t get the message. The more they merge with the Demoncrats(lol at typo), the less donations they receive.

Kinda makes me glad I quit donating awhile back. - Yesterday for the first time in two years I opened a RNC handout request before throwing it away.

“Sham Audits May Have Hid Theft by G.O.P. Committee Treasurer, Lawyer Says”

They produced forged audits for four years and nobody was even aware it or bothered to check. Unless they are totally incompetent, one person acting alone could not have done this.

A local Democrat Congressman (Doggett of TX) had an election worker embezzle hundreds of thousands of dollars from his campaign. Stuff happens.

I dont think she went to jail. I’m sure her spending spree was a good cause.

Whether it’s an eagle or a turkey, it’s still better to be the right wing than the left wing.

May they become extinct, as the dinosaurs.

Too bad it won't be a meteor, or asteroid that finishes them off.

Sounds like a serious lack of segregation of duties. If the treasurer can fake or manipulate audits to hide his embezzlement, there were not adequate controls in place. Makes you wonder what else may be missing from the RNCC coffers.

It even sounds like the GOP is secretly funnelling money to Oprah’s Obama to try to get Oprah to say something nice about them.
