Happens all the time....
Almost anything can be bought or rented....

I suspect that many of the ARVN officers killed in Vietnam, were killed by their own for rewards from the Communists or to save some family members taken hostage by the Communists and demanded the whack to retrieve their family members....

It is fairly well acknowledged that a couple of Generals who were opposed to the widespread graft and corruption involving payments to the ARVN grunts - were killed by devices placed in their choppers by Field and Flag grade Officers who were profiting from the war... Major league fragging.

One of the sad facts of the war - is that many influential Vietnamese families who grew VERY rich through blackmail, corruption, theft, graft, prostitution, crime gangs, kidnapping, etc......were among those evacuated early and doing very well in the U.S...

I deeply suspect, that some of those “influential” family members who met “violent” or “untimely” deaths in the U.S. were the deserving victims of folks who knew and resented past wrongs done them or their family... Payback can be a bitxx.
