They should claim that they are producing ethanol to help relieve dependence on foreign oil (moonshine is mainly ethanol.Hey, now there's an idea = and to heck with selling it. Put it in the gas tank!

We may know some of the same people. They did not make a dent in the supply of untaxed liquor in Echols County. They never have and never will.

Hey, now there's an idea = and to heck with selling it. Put it in the gas tank!AFTER giving it a little test to make sure it's "gettin' just right". You don't want to put untested fire-water in your vehicle when a simple little "taste test" would allow you to properly evaluate it.

There’s still plenty of stills in Georgia. Go to any small town. I was almost lynched as a revenoor so many times it would make yer back ache. I was born a yankee, so I was the enemy from day one. Once they realised that I worked for Georgia Power, they settled down as most of these same fellas had worked on the power lines as I did. I met the men who had used mules to get to their towers. I had a Honda 350.

My Uncle made pure corn liquor. Open the Mason jar and it smelled as if you were shucking fresh corn. He NEVER cut is Shine as many did, so he got the best price.I must be missing something. I've tried moonshine and poteen (sp? "Po-cheen") and it has to rank as two of the worst experiences of my life.
Didn't smell nothing like corn. Wish I'd tried you Uncle's instead.

Also, ethanol can only be used in certain vehicles that 1) are designated flex-fuel (like my 2002 Chevy S-10 truck), 2) have their fuel control chips replaced with those designed to operate ethanol-based fuel systems, or 3) have modified carburetors (mainly older vehicles).

Hey thanks for the tip and the link!
This would be a handy thing to know how to do - the way gas prices are headed.
And I have plenty of land on which to put a still -
wonder what my kids and grandkids would say if granny had a "still on the hill" and cranked out "a gallon or two?"

This fellas grandaddy was caught in Elba selling the shine and he beat the hell out of the sherrif, the sherrif told him not to come back. The next month he was back and there were about 7 cops waiting for him, story goes he almost kick all their butts ,but they got him to the ground and arrested and sent him to prison. He was dead within two weeks in a mining accident,go figure.
My grandaddy ran shine from Brewton to Andalusia,he told me he’d mix it with the gas to get that extra punch, also he poured lead in the frame of his car so he could do a 180 and stay on the road, while the cops chasing him would wind up in the ditch..Coming back around, just watch

And those labs eventually blow themselves up so the county boys don’t get to have the fun of doing it themselves. That’s why they really throw the book that those meth guys - for ruining their fun.

I was talking about a taste test, before putting that moonshine ethanol into the gas tank of your "loved one"/vehicle, you may want to give it a generous taste test.
Please note that "testing" should be limited to a few rounds or set a time limit.

Yeah, if you do some Google searching, you can actually find companies that will sell you completely built and fully legal stills. I've been investigating home-manufactured alternative fuels for two years now, and actually got formal written permission from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to build and operate my own ethanol still for fuel production (a LOT of paperwork involved though, considering that there are a LOT of Prohibition-era laws still on the books everywhere).
However, I haven't built the still yet since my master mechanic next door neighbor convinced me to look into biodiesel and SVO/WVO fuels. I'm currently doing the research, and based upon what I'm seeing, those alternatives look like the way to go.

When I was a kid my gang roamed all over. The rule was, if you stumbled on a still you walked straight ahead, eyes on the ground, and kept your mouth shut, if you ever wanted to hunt that land again. The guys running the still would be watching, but you’d never see them. The freedom to ramble the woods was the most precious thing we had, no way would I have risked losing it by saying anything. I still won’t.

My Grandfather liked moonshine more than the expensive stuff. He was a moderately successful farmer and could afford the expensive kind. He never made any but his friend and neighbor did.
My other Grandfather was a Baptist preacher and claimed to have never even tasted liquor.

***Its hard for me to believe people are still making Shine. When I was a kid, living in this part of the country, it was a way of life. Then drugs took over.****
The local law busted a still in Benton County, Arkansas not long ago. It was so rare to find one the law was unsure how to destroy it. They knew more about getting rid of meth labs than stills.
