University newspaper: God tells Mary, 'You're f----d'

The student newspaper at the University of Virginia published a cartoon mocking Christians and Christianity after determining it met its own "criteria" at The Cavalier Daily, but later jerked it and has been backpedaling ever since.

The illustration – and another earlier cartoon – were the subject of an alert from the American Family Association, which urged readers to take advantage of a special website procedure it set up to send an e-mail to Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, with a copy to Daniel LaVista, the executive director of the state Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

"Last week, the University of Virginia's student paper, The Cavalier Daily, ran a cartoon depicting a naked man smoking a cigarette in bed. Standing beside the bed, a woman in her underwear buttons up her shirt and asks, 'Come on God, be honest – Did you really get a vasectomy? I can't let Joseph find out about this.' The man replies, 'Well, Mary, you're f----d," the AFA said.

An earlier cartoon portrayed a crucified Jesus telling jokes onstage, AFA said.

"It is sad to see students at the University of Virginia's newspaper, The Cavalier Daily, use such a low level of intelligence to express their anti-Christian bigotry," the suggested e-mail to state officials says. "It leaves one wondering what the taxpayers of Virginia get in return for the millions of dollars the state uses to educate the students.

The AFA e-mail continues: "The paper has posted on its website that it 'regrets any offense readers may have taken to two recent comics in the strip...' So, no apology is offered. In other words, they regret the fact that Christians are taking offense at the blasphemous cartoons.

Another example of Liberalism at its finest. When will we as a country learn these people and all they espouse are destroying our foundation?

How can we begin the revolution?

Frankly, while I'm sure others will go into high dudgeon mode and express outrage at the blasphemy, this differs not a whit from the Dutch cartoons portraying Mohammed.

Free speech is a wonderful thing.

Well they think they're so controversial in saying that about Christians but will they say anything similar about Mohammad?

Nope, didn't think so. Hypocrisy at its finest...

Not surprising in that it comes from a cesspool of liberal academia.

Well it differs in one way.

They wouldn't dare print such a thing about Mohammad.

I wonder if the cartoon was trying to get people to stop getting pregnant at 13 like Mary did. Could there be some message there somehow. I get sick of people saying “well Mary got pregnant at 13 and was unmarried” to justify those who get pregnant unmarried.

The difference is one is dealt with by legally expressing their first admendment rights by objecting to it. The other is dealt with by burning cars, rioting, and death threats. Of course I know there are many libertarian types who hate the idea that Christians have first amendment rights too. See from your analogy you are not too much different than those radical Muslims either.

Not on my dime. Free speech is great if you’re willing to pay for your own free speech.

The difference is in response. Christians will forgive. Muslims will kill.

It is the nature of their religion.

The example of Mohamed on adultery Sahih Muslim, Book 17: 4206

There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a woman from Ghamid and said: Allah's Messenger, I have committed adultery, so purify me. He (the Holy Prophet) turned her away. On the following day she said: Allah's Messenger, Why do you turn me away? Perhaps, you turn me away as you turned away Ma'iz. By Allah, I have become pregnant. He said: Well, if you insist upon it, then go away until you give birth to (the child). When she was delivered she came with the child (wrapped) in a rag and said: Here is the child whom I have given birth to. He said: Go away and suckle him until you wean him. When she had weaned him, she came to him (the Holy Prophet) with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said: Allah's Apostle, here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food. He (the Holy Prophet) entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. Khalid b Walid came forward with a stone which he flung at her head and there spurted blood on the face of Khalid and so he abused her. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) heard his (Khalid's) curse that he had huried upon her. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Khalid, be gentle. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, she has made such a repentance that even if a wrongful tax-collector were to repent, he would have been forgiven. Then giving command regarding her, he prayed over her and she was buried.

And now contrast that peaceful religion with the hateful Christianity:

The example of Jesus on adultery (John 8:1-11)

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. "Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?" They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."

Not different? Are there mobs in the streets burning and looting. Your statement is idiotic.

Why not? It's not like they have to worry about getting their heads sawed off, or being bombed or murdered if they do this to Christians....

But I wonder what the response would be if they'd publish something defamatory about the ROP? No way... They'd never do it.

Christians are mocked so easily because the mockers do not fear for their lives.

It certainly does. This cartoon is an attack on a core belief of Christianity, which is a benign religion (don't give me a lot of garbage about violence done by nominal Christians; there is no exhortation for violence in the teachings of Jesus or the Apostles themselves). The Danish (you don't even have the nationality right) cartoon showing Mohammed with a bomb for a turban simply satirizes an obvious fact about Islam: that it extols and encourages violence. It is a cult concocted by a plundering warlord.

Just another step toward the liberal’s goal of deconstructing America.

Ever notice how in movies and videos, the streetwalker, crook, drug dealer, or corupt official, is usually shown prominently wearing a cross? Thats done to discredit Chrisianity and portray it’s followers as scumbags.
