Saddam links to al Qaeda

Earlier this week, the Pentagon announced that an investigation into over 600,000 documents captured at the end of the invasion of Iraq showed no operational links to al-Qaeda — or at least, that’s how the media reported it. After a strange few days in which the Pentagon delayed the report, it finally hit the internet last night — and it’s clear that the analysis done by the media was superficial at best. If no operational “smoking gun” could be found, the report still shows that Saddam Hussein had plenty of ties to all sorts of terrorist groups, including radical Islamist jihadis....

Can anybody link to a DTIC-early bird article similar to the one at my source. Good details on the real info in the Pentagon report on Iraq support for terrorism.

And let’s not forget the checks paid to families of suicide bombers against Israel. This was totally in the open (reported by the news agencies) when he did this.

Saddam put money into Egypt’s Islamic Jihad. The IJ opposes the Hosni Mubarak regime for a number of reasons, but primarily because of Egypt’s shaky diplomatic relations with Israel. One leader of IJ that Westerners can easily name was Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became Osama’s chief deputy and primary mouthpiece to the world.

But, probably Zawahiri tendered his resignation to IJ, and then waited 90 days before hiring on to AQ to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.

Because if he's IJ, and AQ, and if Saddam is funding IJ, and an IJ is Bin Ladin's second in command, then maybe Saddam is connected to Al Qaeda. And since we've dismissed that out of hand, then, I don' know.

The truth is that Bin Ladin had, and has, a lot of connections. He has his own agenda and he acted as hired gun for others who were trying to use him for theirs.

And the truth is that almost nothing the press has had to say about it is true or complete. Sunnis won't work with Shia? False. Secular nationalists won't work with religious radicals? False. Persians won't work with arabs? False.

Bin Ladin has received help from any and all. And since any and all agree that the US has to be expelled from the middle east, that the Saudi royals need to be overthrown, and that Musharraf needs to go, then there is almost no conflict of interest at all, only in the eyes of the midgets in the press rooms.

So I guess he lied

“Saddam Hussein’s regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.”

— John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

EIJ merged with AQ in 1998. They are the same thing. The media are idiots, but the Bush administration is partially to blame for identifying AQ as if it was our primary enemy. AQ is simply a name for a network of various terrorist groups that include EIJ and many other groups.
