The Hague - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has issued a strong condemnation of the anti-Qur'an film released by Dutch MP Geert Wilders. The UN chief said there could be no justification for instilling hatred or incitement to violence.
The European Union and a handful of Muslim countries have also strongly condemned the film. The authorities in Pakistan summoned the Dutch ambassador to account for the film and want the Netherlands to take legal action against Geert Wilders, who heads the right-wing Freedom Party.
Negative reactions have also come from Iran, Jordan and Indonesia. The Indonesian authorities referred to the Netherlands' colonial past in Indonesia as an additional reason why it should be careful not to open old wounds. A section of the Jordanian media has started legal action against Mr Wilders and is calling for a boycott of Dutch products.
Dutch Development Minister Bert Koenders says he believes that the international response to the film so far has been reassuring. He described the concern expressed by other countries as logical but said they need to understand the Dutch position on freedom of speech.
Ping
funny what excites them over there on the east side.
“The authorities in Pakistan summoned the Dutch ambassador to account for the film and want the Netherlands to take legal action against Geert Wilders, who heads the right-wing Freedom Party.”
Come on Holland! They´re showing the world how to act like citizens of a free country! I just hope Mr Wilders gets the support he deserves!
Incitement to hate = Telling the truth and presenting a few facts about Islam. I saw some of it, and perceived it as a wake-up call more than anything intended to incite.
Sometimes the truth.......hurts. Most of the video footage appeared that it was taken off of Al Jareeza TV or the Islamic websites...so what gives?
Sun rises in east...
Water is wet...
Americans are sheep...
Sky is blue...
UN backs evil...
In the Islamist world there are endless anti-American, anti-Western, anti-human rights, anti-etc, terror propaganda films.
Gosh, its funny how the UN never denounces these. No, the UN denounces a 100% factual documentary.
Has the UN ever condemned any of these atrocities?
As far as I’m concerned, the UN has changed from a communist club house to a moslem club house-with too many European nations and the “nonaligned” nations trying to play the same old games that they used to back when it was the USA versus the USSR . The UN is, if anything, more of a threat today than it was during the cold war. I wish we’d get out, before these idiots pass any more “mandates” against free speech and other rights we cherish-mandates that are meaningless now, but in a decade or two-???
I’m sure the UN human rights commission is now at Scores getting lapdances after what it would consider a productive day.
Good point!
“The UN chief said there could be no justification for instilling hatred or incitement to violence.”
Has to be most idiotic statement ever released by the UN. Did this moron even watch the film? All it is, is undoctored video footage of terrorist attacks and translations of what clerics preach in mosques. The only incitement to violence going on is what those clerics are saying in that video.
So according to the UN, displaying the truth about Islam is incitement to violence. Morons.
Would he condemn ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’, or other movies that are considered offensive for Christians?
...as they continue to remain silent about Muslims beheading schoolgirls.
Haven't heard a peep from him concerning muslims and their peaceful little cult either.
