All I read, Freema, is that the autopsy did not conclusively prove that it was Awad, or who it was. There was some discrepancy with the DNA. Allegedly, the family indicated he had a metal rod in his leg from a farming incident, from falling out of a tree, or from the Iraq/Iran war - pick one. However, from what little that was reported, it did not appear the body had a leg deformity to match the described rod. Race indicated the body that was provided was headless. I don't know about any duct tape at the time he was turned into the police. There were rumors, but nothing in print. At Cpl. Thomas's trial, the issue of who the body actually was, was never answered. Awad became an unknown Iraqi.

The headless part we found was innacurrate, We are not sure who started that rumor and believe it may have been intentional misstatements by the prosecution to deflect people or trace the passage of information.

It did have a head, that is confirmed.
