Conservatives may not be thrilled with what a McCain presidency means, but if social conservatives care about the makeup of the House and Senate, as well state legislatures and the courts, then they should rally around McCain. They know better than most the importance of controlling the legislative and judicial branches to achieve long-term influence.
With McCain representing the Republican brand, even if he were to lose the race he should be able to save a few Senate seats (say 2-3) and a handful of House seats (perhaps 10). The latter could keep the Democrats majority below 250, a reachable number for the GOP in 2010.
If the de facto Democratic nominee is clear within the next 4-6 weeks, that person will see a poll bounce. And according to GOP pollster Steve Lombardo, it could be one heck of a bounce, like post-convention. He anticipates the Democratic candidate will move up 10 points once the primary race is over.
If McCains is hanging in, behind by 10 or so points, then it is clear he will have a shot. If the bounce pushes the Democratic nominee to as much as a 15 point lead, it may be very demoralizing to the GOP. The sooner McCain can absorb this inevitable negative poll news, the longer he has to recover.
If Clinton is the foe, McCain will be using a target map that looks very similar to the one George Bush pursued in '00 and '04. The emphasis will be on the Midwest and West, as he may be able to pick off a few blue states like Oregon or Wisconsin.
If Obama is the foe, McCain's geographic emphasis is likely to shift East to the Rust Belt, Michigan and Pennsylvania in particular, and even to the Northeast.

McCain will win PA, rendering the whole point moot. Even if he loses Ohio, if he wins PA it’s over for Hitlery or The Magic Negro.
I agree that the MSM will do whatever they can to get this so called bounce but I just don’t think it is there. The American people have seen these two clowns for months now and they aren’t buying. I would imagine McCain never trails by more than five against either one in Rasmussen and if it is Hillary McCain wins by three or four points, Osama he beats by ten.
Advice from MSNBC?? LOL!
McCain had better hope that Clinton is not on the ticket if he wants to win more than 20 states.
McCain will win Pennsylvania against Obama but he will for sure lose it to Hillary Clinton.
She’s harder to beat than Obama at this point.
However, I think even she is beatable - if she has to use shenanigans to get the nod, which, mathematically, is the only way she gets the nomination now, a lot of Black Obama supporters will be pissed at her, and enough will be pissed to throw the election to McCain.
Just my $0.02.
Pick a VP who was defeated in his Senate re-election like George Allen?
Mclame can kiss this “typical white girls” behind. He is still a lib in R clothing.
I’d rather see the knife coming towards me instead of in the back. At least I’d have a fighting chance.
Obama is inching ahead of McCain in the Gallup & Rasmussen tracking polls. The Dems activists and the media are rallying around Obama. They hope to kick Hillary to the curb by the May 6th primaries. I hope Hillary stays in the primary as long as possible to force Obama to burn up his vast campaign wealth. I’d rather Obama use his money to attack McCain than Hillary at this point. McCain enjoy a poll bounce in March while Hillary & Obama duked it out.
I think talking about bounces and such this way is pre-internet thinking.
The old rules don’t apply any more in the old ways.
“Bounces” were the product mostly of the effect of headlines. Today many more people get a lot more than headlines and a lot more people talk with other people and interact with the news online.
McCain will win PA,
Nuts.
The only republican who could win Pa is Ronald Reagan, and he is dead.
In fact, that would be the last time that Pa actually voted GOP. - 1988
Count em. 20 years. 2 decades.
I also like George Allen. If Obama’s the Rat nom, Allen would have all kinds of comebacks from the Wright vid archive with which to beat back any insinuations that he (Allen) is racist.
I’d also like to see Lynne Cheney as VP. Rice has what it takes, too.
>Id rather see the knife coming towards me instead of in the back...
Hear hear! Bears repaeating!
McCain has tried to stick something in our backside enough times for us not to know what is coming...
Correction: Id rather Obama use his money to attack Hillary than McCain at this point. McCain enjoy a poll bounce in March while Hillary & Obama duked it out.
