Blockbuster Plans to Take $1 Billion-Plus Cash Takeover Bid to Circuit City Shareholders
DALLAS (AP) -- Blockbuster Inc. said Monday it will take an unsolicited $1 billion-plus bid for Circuit City Stores Inc. directly to the consumer electronics chain's shareholders, saying Circuit City has not responded to repeated offers.......

I heard the name of the new company would be “City Block”. Catchy huh?
Some years back, management at Circuit City became alarmed about the pay its commissioned sales reps were taking home. So they fired their best sales reps to put a stop to it.
Well, maybe Radio Shack isn’t exactly the one looked at Circuit City...
You picked that one. But their sales force is decimated.
I don’t see a good fit with these two.
Explains the service quality. Every time I walk into a Circuit City I feel like I'm in a Romero film.
Yeah...I don’t think Circuit Busters would catch on as a marketing name and City Buster sounds too much like a strategic Nuke!
That was this past year, in my understanding.
They must have done it more than once. I remember reading this in the WSJ more than three or four years back...
Given the ‘Stellar’ reputations of both, I’d say that the name for this deal will end up ‘Short Circuit Block Head’ and will soon die.
I was shocked during my last visit to Circuit City. Store in a shambles, low/outdated inventory, bare shelves ‘cos they apparently can’t afford new stock.
I get tired on their sales gerbils but it is an alternative to Best Buy. If Blockbuster takes over I will have to go Internet-only!
Erm, that should be “of their sales gerbils.”
For the record I have never been on a sales gerbil or any other sort of gerbil.
[Insert generic Richard Gere joke here]
"Drive?? I can't even get out of Gere, dammit!"
Ba-doom-cha! She just flew in from Detroit, and she'll be playing the Sheraton all weekend :)
It is the economic equivalent Amalgamated Horse Carriages merging with Buggy Whips, Inc. Also, like a blind man marrying a cripple.
I knew that reference was inevitable so I didn’t bother :(
That's what I bring to any thread. That air of depressing inevitability.
Interesting. Blockbuster knows it’s days are numbered. This play to get into a broader retail may be a way to have a future.
Well heck, they should have bid on Kmart/Sears....
That may very well be the model they are seeking to emulate. Not sure they can pull it off though.
