Clinton's solid win in the Pennsylvania primary exposed a quandary for the party. Her backers may be convinced that only she can win the white, working-class voters that the Democratic nominee will need in the general election, but many African American leaders say a Clinton nomination -- handed to her by superdelegates -- would result in a disastrous breach with black voters.
"If this party is perceived by people as having gone into a back room somewhere and brokered a nominee, that would not be good for our party," House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.), the highest ranking African American in Congress, warned yesterday. "I'm telling you, if this continues on its current course, [the damage] is going to be irreparable."
That fear, plus a more general sense that Clinton's only route to victory would be through tearing down her opponent, has led even some black Democrats who are officially neutral in the race, such as Clyburn, to speak out.
Clinton's camp has a vastly different interpretation, arguing that the most recent primary demonstrated that Democrats remain very interested in seeing the contest continue.
"Pennsylvania did the job of calming any nerves that existed," said Clinton campaign spokesman Jay Carson. "It showed that the big states around the country think she's the best person to be president."
But that opinion is far from unanimous. More than 70 top Clinton donors wrote their first checks to Obama in March, campaign records show. Clinton's lead among superdelegates, a collection of almost 800 party leaders and elected officials, has slipped from 106 in December to 23 now, according to an Associated Press tally.

And the GOP had to give us McCain because it was his turn...
Stupid squared.
You're going to wanna put some ice on that...
First they said whites cannot compete with blacks for college or in the workplace. Are they now saying whites cannot compete with blacks in democracy? O yeah, competition is a capitalistic idea, not a socialist doctrine.
Situations like this give blacks a firm impression that the Clintons "are committed to doing everything they possibly can to damage Obama to the point that he could never win," Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., told The New York Times. "When he was going through his impeachment problems, it was the black community that bellied up to the bar," Clyburn said. "I think black folks feel strongly that this is a strange way for President Clinton to show his appreciation."
LOL!
You should have learned 16 years ago pal that the Clintons are about.........the Clintons.
As for the "black community" that you claim to represent - when that constituency wanted to be that stupid, I couldn't do anything about it.
It’s put up or shut up time.
Brilliant!
Will they abandon the Democrats even if Hillary robs Obama? I'll bet they don't.
It was so much fun seeing fat teacher union delegates shake their very large posteriors every night.
It was even more fun watching Democrats criticize the GOP conventions on the blogs.....like this guy.
Indeed it has.
Most folks who are choosing to take a stand against Obama, understand what kind of poison he is bringing to the table of democracy. The poison politics he is offering has little to do with his shade of skin.
If drawing back the curtains from around the wizard is racist, then so be it. Pull Toto! Pull! Expose him for what he is.
Had he been free of all the partisan racial encumbrances, as he tried to present himself, then very few people would be would be concerned about his race.
In fact, I dare say many people, especially the so-called Obamacans are desperate to vote for a black candidate in hopes that it will absolve them of some perceived guilt that they carry around with them at all times.Unfortunately, and I truly mean unfortunately as I believe an honest post-racial minority candidate would be a good thing for the country, Obama has been exposed as a fraud.
Here we have the progeny of a mixed race couple, who was abandoned by his black father and raised by his white family. Yet he has written books (and narrated them in his own voice) bemoaning the fact, like Malcolm X, that he could not wash away the white blood from his veins.
He belongs to a church that promotes Black Liberation theology and instructs it's congregation to reject "middleclassness", a coded phrase meaning "don't act white".
Then in a setting where he thought it was safe to speak freely, he looks down his nose at the poor, benighted, white rubes, who being too stupid to vote for their own self-interests (ie: Barack Obama's interests), instead cling to their guns and Bibles, presumably Bibles that hold to the quaint notion that Jesus was a middle-eastern Jew and not a sub-Saharan black man. Also, Bibles which curiously omit the "garlic-nose Italians" and that part of the Gospel that contains the prayer that God D--- America.
I'm sure there is much more stink attached to Mr. Obama than we already know now.
Yet, if and when he loses, the blame will fall on white people.
On that you can rest assured.
This is what they have left us with. As our ranks thin and theirs wax we will see, rather our children will see, the evil fruits of this harvest. Race will be set against a race until we are driven to the ends of absurdity and into moral, if not actual, bondage.
When we complain, we will be called racists. There are even those on these threads would complain of my avatar, demonstrating how far they have been co-opted by the racist game played by the left.
Damn their eyes!
I agree. But they may sit out THIS election to sulk.
Well if he doesn’t survive the primary, they won’t be able to blame conservatives of any flavor. The “blame” will lie among themselves.
Well, maybe not...
With Rush’s operation chaos and all...
Some Rats are starting to get it!
As an “Operation Chaos” operative, I was glad to do my part by stirring the pot here in Pennsylvania. As you can well see, the rats are as discombobulated as ever. Now it’s up to the good people of North Carolina and Indiana to keep this thing ours going.
