I know it's technically and grammatically correct, but is it a common practice in Canada to refer to Native Americans as aboriginals?

I don't kow but, it is more 'accurate' than Indian. (ahem)

I have seen them referred to as "sauvages" in French language genealogical records (Tanguay).

Most of my relatives are from Soviet-Canuckistan
and they always refer to them as “Aboriginals”.
I just picked up my mother at the airport flying
in from Winnipeg. Let’s be happy that we live here
instead of there.
