Former Rep. Bob Barr says a number of Republicans have been trying to persuade him not to run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, but none has given him a convincing reason.

The former Republican congressman from Georgia formed an exploratory committee last month and told The Washington Times that he has since been subjected to the behind-the-scenes pressure from Republicans not to run.

Typical stupid Republicans. If they would just be conservatives and reach out to libertarians on a few issues, there wouldn't be a need for Barr.

The Libertarians will run a candidate regardless of what the GOP does. Barr will get the same % as all his predecessors.

What to fear? Barr would grab votes rather from the Dem camp than from the GOP.

Barr has more name recognition and experience than all of the other LPers who ran before him combined. Plus you have the people who support Ron Paul, and even Paul's blessing itself.

Personally, I don't think he should run, and I'm undecided if I would vote for him. I'd rather have McCain run head-up against Obama and see how it plays out. If McCain loses, then the GOP would have no choice but to change. Now they have a scapegoat and can remain their RINO self.

Yes, it’s unfortunate. I agree that libertarians and social conservatives need to join together and support each other’s bottom lines, if ever there is to be a conservative victory. But the Libertarian Party seems to have a way of corrupting anyone who decides to run on their ticket.

I would really, really like to see a strong conservative leader arise whom we could unite behind, but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

Ron Paul is another one with delusions of being the Chosen One who can unite the conservative vote. It ain’t gonna happen.

Barr simply can’t accept he is yesterday’s man...
His 15 minutes of fame is over.

This appears to be his attempt to blackmail the GOP to bring him back into the fold with a position on the money tit.

Sorry, Bob Barr, I respect you greatly and wish I could vote for you. But my absolute top priority in this election is to see Obama and Hillary defeated, and you can’t do it.

Bingo... The Republicans just cannot get a clue the McCain has to go. Well that is if they want to get the conservative vote.

I have a feeling the Dems are going to win. McCain is exciting as watching the grass grow.

I’m not voting for McCain. Most likely I’m writing in Janice Rogers Brown.

Yep, the party hacks don’t want a conservative in the race.

You give the Republican party too much credit. If McCain loss to Obama alone. They would say we are too conservative, and we need a bigger liberal Republican than McCain.

Many people have told me that since I have libertarian leanings, I am a kook, a loserdopian who just wants to smoke drugs, and that only myself and five other kooks nationwide would vote libertarian. So I guess the libertarians fielding a candidate will have no effect on the Republican race.

I don’t know much about Barr but I do agree that the Grand Old Plantation needs to at least pretend to be conservative.

What is the GOP worried about? All I ever hear is that my LP vote is a waste, obviously the GOP doesn’t need it anyway.
