Pearce, Wilson running neck and neck

A photo finish appears to be in the works as a Survey USA poll shows Heather Wilson closing in on Steve Pearce in the last weekend of the primary campaign.

Pearce is still clinging to a slim lead, but it's well within the poll's margin of error. The poll, conducted Friday through Sunday, shows Pearce ahead by one percentage point, 48 to 47.

Wilson closed in on the three point lead Pearce had in the poll two weeks ago.

The poll may reflect Pete Domenici's eleventh hour endorsement of Wilson as his choice to replace him in the U.S. Senate.

"It's very possible the Domenici endorsement has had an effect here on voters who are undecided in this primary contest, I mean Domenici's been in office 36 years, his name is, he's got real star power in the state," said UNM professor Tim Krebs.

I think that Steve Pearce will win by a small margin because more Republicans live in his district. Unfortunately, the general election doesn’t look promising for either candidate.

The winner of the NM GOP primary has the unenviable position of making Udall’s coronation look good for him.

Though the Rats hate her, I think the more moderate ones and independents will support her over far left-wing environut Udall, who is very popular in his district (Santa Fe and northern NM). Pearce was just right for our conservative district, but the rest of the state is not so inclined. Heather is independent (some call her a RINO, but certainly not of the Maine, Nebraska, PA or RI type), but she will fit well in Pete’s seat. It’s important that we keep this seat! Two far left enviro-wackos in the Senate from NM is just too much to swallow.

Wilson is a tough campaigner. Many pundits wrote her off for dead against Patsy Madrid. Yet Wilson still survived. It helps that Wilson is an Iraqi War vet. However with the low approval ratings for the GOP brand plus the manufactured District Attorney scandal, 2008 will not be Wilson’s (or Pearce) year.

There should be one goal for all Republican candidates this fall. Take the Democrats out. If they play hard ball they can win. Liberals are ugly twisted things just reveal what they are and if Democrats running are moderates tie them to the national party with facts not allegations. Isn’t time we nationalized the election again with a strong conservative fiscally responsible agenda like happened in 1994?

We have to deal with Mark Warner here in VA. He raised taxes and even helped fund opposition to our marriage amendment while governor. If Republicans can’t win against him in VA then they don’t have a message. They need to quit being afraid of the media and learn to run like leaders not cowed lapdogs running to win a media popularity contest. They should finger the left as the simian cowards they are.

I’ll call Wilson by 2, thanks to women voting for the woman.

Manny Aragon, three others indicted in kickback scheme (Prominent NM Democrat Politicos)

I met Iglesias in 98 when he was introduced by Domenici at the FOP on Cerrillos in Santa Fe.

Manny is like a grease trap with the lid off--but Davey wouldn't be rushed. . . .

Heather should kick Fraudall where it will do the most good.

Her regional manager told me she's "not a right-winger like Michael Reagan"--which should help in Mexico del Norte.

In other news, His lardness may get the evening call to prayer. . . .

If Miz Wilson IS a RINO, she’ll be a perfect replacement for Pete Domenici...
