Bank Robber Holds Gun Backward

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Surveillance video of a bank robbery surprised detectives when it showed the bandit holding a gun in a strange manner, even backward during the holdup.

"(The robber) is holding it in a manner that he's probably not familiar with handguns and was afraid it was going to go off," Orange County sheriff's Detective Jason Sams said. "If that was a fake gun, he would be holding it normally because he wouldn't care."

Investigators said the bandit was wearing a new Cleveland Indians baseball cap when he walked into the Fifth-Third bank on the corner of University Boulevard and Goldenrod Road.

The man then handed a bank teller a piece of paper before showing a weapon.

During the robbery, surveillance video showed the bandit holding the weapon in an unusual manner and then apparently pointing it at himself before walking out of the bank.

Detectives said the man appears to be familiar with the area and may be from the University of Central Florida area.

Police also said the man had a T-shirt wrapped around his neck, possibly to cover up a tattoo.

Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

The video shows it more clearly, looks like he's holding the pistol sideways with the trigger facing outward, then turns it on himself before leaving.

he walked into the Fifth-Third bank on the corner of University Boulevard and Goldenrod Road.

Probably thought he was in the third fifth bank, thus holding the gun backwards.

Happens all the time.

Why aren’t camera angles at face height? The ball caps are always identifiable, but the chin isn’t enough to ID.

I won't quote the movie "Blazing Saddles", for fear of being banned.... "Shush Harriet, that's a sure way to get him killed" and well... watch the movie.

We should be teaching the “backward” way to criminals so they can shoot themselves.

Words fail me...

I can think of only two:

“Crikey!”
“’Strewth!”

Neither does Justice to the Imponderable stupidity. Not even our worst possible swear of Wonderment DownUnder, which is “Bugga Me...”
